[edit]Hello Husseyn Issa and thanks for your proposals supporting Wiki Loves Earth 2025. I wanted to confirm that Wiki Loves Earth-related Rapid Fund proposals are being formally co-reviewed by both the Community Resources team and the Wiki Loves Earth Organizing team supported by OlesiaLukaniuk (WMUA) (talk · contribs) so proposal feedback reflects both feedback and discussion from both of these groups. Funding decisions on these proposals are also being finalized in a cooperative manner between the WLE organizing team and the Community Resources team as a part of this process. Speaking more broadly, this collaboration is part of a broader effort to support more localized review and decisionmaking when resourcing major Wikimedia campaigns.
After review, We have declined funding for the proposal for the following reasons:
- the proposal's expected impact is relatively low given the number of photowalks compared to last year, and it is not clear why this has changed from the previous year, and
- in future funding proposals, we would like you to coordinate with the local User Group for future events to plan WLE events to support adequate community engagement, not simply engage with community members on Telegram. Furthermore, we do not typically resource many campaign events occurring in the same country, and would like local organizers to coordinate more with affiliates.
With thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 16:04, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for your feedback, though i wish i could as you said coordinate with the local User Groups to have one campaign in the country but i dont know how, and sometimes it is difficulty to arrange or plan activities with a user group which have already general support and all of their activities are already planned and executed at certain period of time.
- Maybe you could give me a heads-up on how i can take it on here, and ensure next projects don't fail in just the early phase of proposal, as now the participants who had much interest and devotion in contribute to this campaign are now heartbroken and should wait till next year.

- @Husseyn Issa: Hi Husseyn. To support your coordination, I recommend reaching out to the organization directly, Open Space Tanzania, and their general contact information is available here. You can review more about their planned activities and projects in their funded proposal as well for reference. While I understand that coordination can be challenging, this work is important as a part of community engagement, which is necessary to be a successful organizer in the Wikimedia movement. In other communities, an absence of community engagement (whether on the part of an affiliate, individual, or informal group) has often led to various kinds of logistical and interpersonal conflict, which creates distrust and ultimately harms that community's ability to operate in a healthy way. Therefore, this outreach and coordination is an important part of our expectations around proposal review. I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 16:12, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
