No doubt this is the kind of project we need to ensure availability of free-to-use coverage of all the knowledge in the world.

This project is clear, goal-oriented, and most importantly y, the facilitators of the program are individuals who have, over the years, exhibited strong understanding of Wiki projects. As such, this program is within safe hands, and the result will be very impressive.

If there is any word more powerful than support and/or endorse, I would have used it here. Thus, I have endorsed this project and Strong support Strong support its approval.

Wiki Loves Naija Traditions 2024

1. Why is the proposal important for your community, and how do you believe the chosen strategies will achieve the expected outcomes?

The proposal is crucial because it aims to highlight prominent Nigerian figures, including traditional leaders, by featuring them on Wikipedia. AB-Babayo, with extensive editing experience, targets these notables to enhance the representation of Nigerian heritage. The strategies are well-aligned to meet the expected outcomes by focusing on these influential figures.

2. Can you identify any particularly well-developed aspects of the proposal, such as the proposed strategies and activities, community engagement, outreach to underrepresented groups, knowledge gaps, partnerships, budget, and evaluation?

AB-Babayo’s experience in managing similar activities is evident in the proposal, which outlines a comprehensive range of activities designed to engage an underrepresented community. The proposal effectively aims to expand Wikipedia’s reach and impact through these well-structured strategies and activities.

3. Does the proposal incorporate any interesting research, learning, or innovation? Does it build on past experiences or proposals by the individual, organization, or other Wikimedia communities?

The proposal focuses on enhancing the visibility of notable Nigerian figures and celebrating Nigerian cultural heritage. AB-Babayo leverages extensive experience in organizing Wikipedia-related campaigns, aiming to re-engage the Nigerian community with Wikipedia and build on previous successes.

4. Do you think the proposal will contribute to significant developments within specific Wikimedia projects or the Movement Strategy?

Yes, the proposal addresses the well-documented biases on the English Wikipedia related to race, geography, and gender, with Nigeria being a central focus. By enriching Wikipedia content about Nigerian Traditional Leaders, the proposal aims to remedy these biases and contribute to broader Wikimedia goals.

5. Do you believe the proposal is coherent in terms of its objectives, strategies, budget, and expected results?

Absolutely. The proposal’s milestones, strategies, and metrics are clearly defined and precise. By evaluating these aspects at the end of the project, we will be able to identify areas for improvement and measure success. I am enthusiastic about the project’s potential to facilitate Wikipedia editing and contribute to the movement.

I therefore endorse and Strong support Strong support this project ZamakhshariMU (talk) 17:37, 12 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

This initiative is essential for addressing the significant lack of Hausa-related history available online in our language. By capturing and sharing our oral histories, we will empower our communities and ensure that our rich cultural narratives are preserved for future generations. This project will help balance the digital representation of Hausa culture, making our voices and stories accessible to a wider audience. I urge everyone to support this important endeavor. --Ibrahim Sani Mustapha (talk) 07:01, 16 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Rapid Fund Request : Not Funded

[edit]

Thank you for submitting your application. After a thorough review of your proposal, we have made a decision not to fund your proposal. See the notes speaking to the rationale of the decision below;

  • While the intention to ensure representation of knowledge on traditional leaders is meaningful, it is unclear who the specific leaders you are keen to create articles are and how you will be supporting your participants in the identification and development of the content given you might encounter challenges with sourcing etc. We encourage a review of your approach to closing on these content gaps. It is also unclear on the motivation for the hybrid approach of trainings especially given that the core foundation of the training is online - why do you need an in-person session?  Upon being clear on this, the scope of the project can be supported by programs like the Hausa Wikimedians UG data program or the Nigeria UG mini-grant program that we see you have accessed before.

Thank you. VThamaini (WMF) (talk) 16:20, 5 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
