UMYU Wiki Fan Club Video Campaign[edit]

Hello members, In a nutshell, we want to organize our first campaign so that the club will be active. First of all, we want to organize the largest campaign where we will ally with three major sections of the university - the university library, the Hausa Club, and the student union government. We believe, through this idea, we can bring on board a lot of newbies to Wikimedia and keep them guided through our continuous events (monthly office hours & seminars). Endorse support or opposite, and/or make recommendations. Best regards Uncle Bash007 (talk) 08:55, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Support[edit]

There is a need to create a massive campaign for this club considering the goals of this Fan club towards adding or improving contents relating to Hausa and Northern Nigeria.Manaf205 (talk) 09:43, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not funded[edit]

Hello Uncle Bash007, thank you for submitting your grant application. We appreciate your interest in contributing to the mission of the Wikimedia Movement. We are continuously strengthening our grants review process, ensuring that grant funding is being invested towards impactful projects and efforts geared towards contributing to the mission of Wikimedia Movement in the most efficient and effective manner.

After reviewing your application, we have decided to not fund your Rapid Fund request. Here are the main reasons for our decision:

  • Lack of coordination: The project proposal has not been properly communicated to the Hausa Wikimedians User Group. We request that any fan club establishment and operation is coordinated and aligned with the User Group.
  • Duplication of efforts: This project duplicates efforts and has overlapping activities that will be implemented by Hausa Wikimedians User Group.
  • Not located in the same region: The applicant is not located in the region where activities are planned to take place. Given the capacity of the team and details of activities, we think that there are considerable concerns regarding the sustainability of the project.
  • Budget alignment: The proposed budget does not align with the described activities and overall project impact. The application needs to have a reasonable budget that is aligned with the context.
  • Learnings mentioned in the application are not clear.

Hello @DSaroyan (WMF), Thank you for taking your time to review my request. I think there has being mis-interpretation in some aspects of these project.
1. This Fan Club was clearly communicated with the Hausa Wikimedian User Group leaders. I personally have talked with user:Em-mustapha even before the creation of this Fan Club. Activities are clearly stated on the Hausa Wikimedians talkpage and the club’s home page.
2. I was not aware of such activities being planned by the UserGroup in the first place.
3. I am permanently settling in Katsina and I am also studying Msc in Geography at the moment at Umaru Musa Yaradua University Katsina, as a post graduate student. I just relocated for Ramadan break. I have proof for this
4. Budgets can be re-designed if possible

5. I believe any of these two grants will make a great impact to Hausa Wikimedia and Wikipedia at large, because if we ally with the University library, Hausa Club and the student union, we'll have a great impact.

Finally, I request if the grant team will consider this grant and changes can be made to the budget. We will also let the Hausa Wikimedians User Group aware of all our future activities. Thank youUncle Bash007 (talk) 11:11, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
