I support and will be part of this project. Organizing a series of Wikipedia workshops in southern Tunisia will be a great opportunity to provide students with valuable information about the importance of Wikipedia and Wikimedia projects --Maysalenne (talk) 15:03, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

Feedback regarding your rapid grant application
[edit]Dear @نعيم قربوسي,
Thank you very much for applying for a rapid grant to introduce newcomers to Wikipedia in the South of Tunisia, we appreciate your commitment to and efforts in bringing in underrepresented regions into the Wikimedia movement. After a thorough review of your proposal, the WMF Community Resources team has a couple of follow up questions and points before reaching a final decision:
- Project timeline. We appreciate your ambition in conducting activities across 10 cities, and we kindly request that you share a timeline on how you plan on organizing these sessions across the ten cities within the grant period of your project.
- Community support. You mentioned that online discussions were held on platforms such as Wikimedia Tunisia’s community pages and Meta-Wiki, where you invited feedback from both local and international Wikimedia contributors. May you share a link to this discussion please?
- Content of workshop based on project team experience. The WMF Community Resources team is keen on learning what the content of the workshops will be considering the project team experience. We can see that several of the project team members have some editing experience, but it would be great if you could share what the outcomes of the workshops are expected to be for participants given the trainer experience.
- Sustaining participant engagement after the workshop. How do you plan on sustaining participant engagement after the workshop is held? Do you have plans for follow up activities?
- Budget considerations
- May you please provide a detailed budget breakdown for the amounts spent for transportation and workshop logistics for each city that you will be visiting?
- You list two costs for logistics and workshop space rental in your budget, may you please explain further what these costs refer to? Thank you very much for the clarification.
We would greatly appreciate your response to the abovementioned points by March 27 at the latest.
Thank you very much!

- Dear FElgueretly-WMF
- Thank you for your time in reviewing our rapid grant proposal and for your valuable feedback. We appreciate your commitment to supporting Wikimedia initiatives in underrepresented regions. Below are our responses to your follow-up questions:
- Project Timeline
- We have created a detailed project timeline outlining how we plan to conduct activities across the ten cities within the grant period. This timeline has been uploaded to the Fluxx platform for your review. Please let us know if any additional details are needed.
- Community Support
- The initial discussion regarding this project was conducted within the Wiki Club Metlaoui community. To ensure wider community input, we will also share the discussion on the Wikimedia Tunisia mailing list. Once shared, we will provide you with the relevant link.
- Content of Workshops Based on Project Team Experience
- The workshops will focus on introducing participants to Wikipedia editing, translating articles from English or French into Arabic, and uploading images to Wikimedia Commons. Given our team’s experience, we will ensure that newcomers gain practical skills in these areas, enabling them to contribute effectively to Wikimedia projects.
- Sustaining Participant Engagement After the Workshop
- To maintain participant engagement beyond the workshops, we will encourage them to become active members of our Wikimedia community. Additionally, we will invite them to participate in future Wikimedia activities and provide mentorship opportunities. We also aim to support participants in developing Wikimedia-related projects in their respective towns, fostering long-term involvement.
- Budget Considerations
- We have provided a detailed budget breakdown for transportation and workshop logistics for each city in the budget link sheet 3. The budget document has been updated accordingly and uploaded for your review.
- Logistics and Workshop Space Rental Costs
- The first cost covers renting spaces for the ten workshops, ensuring a suitable venue for each session.
- The second cost is for a three-day edit-a-thon, where we will invite the top 25 participants from the workshops. This edit-a-thon is designed to motivate them to contribute more actively to Wikipedia by providing an immersive editing experience.
- We appreciate the opportunity to clarify these points and look forward to your feedback. Please let us know if any further information is required. نعيم قربوسي (talk) 00:18, 25 March 2025 (UTC)
As a Wikimedian with years of experience in the South of Tunisia, I can ensure that this region is underrepresented inside the Wikimedia Community. For years, we have been involved as Wikimedia Tunisia in creating clusters in Sfax and Tozeur. However, bureaucracy and the long distance from key cities like Tunis, Sousse, and Monastir has let the situation more difficult. Securing this funding will allow Wikimedia Tunisia to be closer to the local population there, allowing to better represent indigenous knowledge and tangible cultural heritage.
