Midpoint report approved[edit]

@MichaelDellaBitta: Thanks for the submission of your midpoint report. I am accepting this midpoint report with the following feedback:

  • Thanks for sharing the project page organizing the data modeling for structured data statements. It's helpful to see the procedures and notes available for each statements, as well as indicators of progress where certain challenges or questions have arisen.
  • I want to also applaud your progress so far in your project's impact! The addition of fundamentally important metadata (such as description, title, creators, copyright license) among other statements across over two million items is great news and supports better quality and accessibility of media on Wikimedia Commons.
  • Would you be able to link to the prototype for image citations that was shared with Wikimedia communities?
  • Thanks for your outreach work with Wikimedia communities on the structure of your data model. I want to acknowledge that whether your project and model receive a lot of feedback/commentary from Wikimedia community members is less important than whether a good faith effort is made to invite feedback early on, and to ensure contributors are able to reach out to you easily concerning this coordinated work. Your team has appears to have addressed both of these needs well. The reality is that while there are many volunteers supporting Wikimedia projects, it is sometimes hard to get positive affirmation from contributors on certain aspects of the work before you move forward with it. This is OK, and is also a common experience for many individual contributors as well. Sometimes, the feedback only comes when there is a concern, in which case it's best to discuss the concerns where needed to address misunderstandings, propose solutions, or develop a compromise.

@I JethroBT (WMF): Thanks for the response. You can find some of those prototypes here: commons:User:Dominic/SDC citation tests. Here is also a link to the slidedeck they were used in: [1]. These are in userspace for now, but since I am continuing the work, we'll have some better versions soon. Dominic (talk) 14:22, 22 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
