Report accepted[edit]

Dear “Gatto Uniba”, thank you for submitting your final report and expense documentation. We have reviewed and accepted both. Congratulations, this grant is now complete! We have left some comments and questions below for you to review at your convenience.

Comments and Questions[edit]

Congratulations on achieving all your goals for this grant! It’s wonderful that you were able to introduce so many new people to the Wikipedia movement.

  1. Getting 20 participants at a conference of 200 is a great accomplishment. Many of our grantees struggle to attract attendees to their conference sessions. If there was anything in particular you did to get so many participants at your talk we’d love to hear about it so we can share it with other grantees.
  2. We realize that the conference was only a few months ago, but what have you done since then to maintain contact with the partnerships you established at the conference?
  3. We are happy to approve your request to use the remaining 35.70 EUR to pay for the conference social dinner.

Thank you for all your hard work on this grant and the final report. We appreciate your involvement in the Wikimedia movement! Best regards, WJifar (WMF) (talk) 03:18, 30 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

My Reply[edit]

First of all, please accept my apologies for replying so late to these questions.

  1. I think that the fair number of participants simply depends on the close connection between the topic of my talk, Out of the (sand)box. Developing translation competence via Wikipedia, which was basically on the didactics of translation, and the interests of the audience at the conference, mainly made up of researchers and professors of English and/or Translation Studies at Italian Universities. We all share similar problems which may be 'creatively' addressed by teaching translation via Wikipedia.
  2. Since the conference I have tried to remain in touch with the other Italian University significantly involved in Wikipedia projects, namely the University of Padua. My specific contribution to the Proceedings of the International Conference "Wikipedia in Academia" (forthcoming) provides evidence of this. No significant progress, I admit, has been made in developing projects involving other partners. This also depends on the difficulties of really integrating Wikimedia projects - which involve much volunteer work - in the tight schedule of everyday life at universities.
  3. Thank you for this. Indeed, I take this opportunity to thank again and again the Wikimedia community for the wonderful opportunity we have been given. We hope to be able to do more (and better) in the future.
Thank you “Gatto Uniba” for getting back to us with your response! Best regards, WJifar (WMF) (talk) 00:44, 15 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
