Hello, EricaAzzellini, thank you for submitting such a detailed report and for your hard work in organizing the WikidataLabs series. Congratulations on receiving the WikidataCon Award on the Outreach category! I have the following questions and comments:

  • I see that there is a small amount of remaining funds. I confirm that you can use this amount toward any mission-aligned activities.
  • It’s great to hear that you used videos and online streaming to engage more audience. However, it seems that it was challenging for you to involve new participants in your events. What measures will you take in the future to ensure better engagement and integration of newbies?
  • It's very impressive to see the variety of topics you covered at WikidataLabs. It seems that some of the speakers were not from Brazil. What funds did you use to cover their expenses?
  • Given that it’s an impactful outreach series for you, are you planning to continue organizing it in the future?

@DSaroyan (WMF): Thank you for the comments! Just to wrap this grant:
  • In the near future, we can consider doing WikidataLab events retaking introductory topics on Wikidata and promote a consistent campaign at the university that already hosts the events so that we can reach students and researchers from different backgrounds that may be interest on the project. And as we work very closely to institutions on GLAM Wiki projects, we can focus on bringing more librarians, archivists, museologists and related professionals to this endeavor. Beside WikidataLabs itself, we need to expand even more the Wikidata outreach in Brazil in general.
  • We didn't have any expenses with speakers from outside Brazil since they kindly agreed to do their presentations voluntarily via video conference. But we felt that the event would be more productive and impactful if we could bring the speakers in person to Brazil. We need to find funding options for bringing members from other communities to this kind of event/activity as we managed to do with Andrew Lih and Magnus Manske in 2018 for the WikidataLab VIII. That was a key event for bringing together people from other brazilian locations to seriously gather around Wikidata. The in person contact allows better engagement with Wikidata communities, projects and tools, beside fostering ideas and exchange of experiences.
  • Yes, the Wiki Movement Brazil UG is planning on continuing the WikidataLab series in 2020! It's great to receive a positive feedback around this activity from the community and we are very motivated to keep exploring the Wikidata universe with them!
