Grants talk:Project/Rapid/Anasskoko/Nigerian Public Domain Files

Comments from I JethroBT (WMF)[edit]

@Anasskoko: Hello Anas, thanks for your proposal to support the uploading and integration of images and media in the public domain in Nigeria. I'm glad to hear there is a lot of freely available content in local archives that can be made more accessible through your work. Here are my comments and questions:

  • Can you complete a Risk Assessment for your in-person event, and then post a link to your risk assessment on the proposal page under the Are you running any in-person events or activities? question? We will need to review this before we can make a funding decision on your proposal.
  • We're not able to support more expensive merchandise or incentives like t-shirts and hats for every participant through Rapid Grants. However, we are able to support these merchandise for organizers / facilitators as well as a small number of participants. Would you be willing to reduce the T-shirts and hats budget to include only the organizers as well as five (5) participants?
  • I am needing some clarity over the type of media that is available to upload. In the project goal section, you wrote
So in this project videos and images that are in public domain will be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, also to link those files to Wikidata items for usage to Wikipedia pages, and this project will do the following activities
but in the Impact section, it reads:
Number of photos uploaded to Wikimedia Commons (if applicable): No pictures upload
Could you clarify what kind of public domain files or media you expect to upload?
  • What training materials or documents will you be using to teach participants about getting public domain files and uploading files to Wikimedia Commons?

Please let me know if you need any clarity around my questions. With thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 07:25, 16 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@I JethroBT (WMF): Hello JethroBT, thank you for responding to my proposal, below are the answers to your question in ascending order:
  • Risk assessment tool have been completed, pasted on the proposal page as requested.
  • T-shirts and hats have been reduced from the budge, now is for three organizers as well as five (5) participants as you stated, making it the total of 8.
  • Note what I said earlier in the proposal page is a mistake, which i corrected of recent, "Number of photos uploaded to Wikimedia Commons (if applicable): No pictures upload", so the number of pictures will be 500 as corrected now in the proposal page.
You also asked, "Could you clarify what kind of public domain files or media you expect to upload?" any files that are related to Nigeria which we can find in archive, newspapers or any public domain publications; like Nigerian people, Nigerian monuments, Nigerian building, Nigerian cuisine, Nigerian places and Nigerian cultural historical images.
  • We are using this materials [1] and [2] documents, to teach participants about getting public domain files and uploading files to Wikimedia Commons.
  • I have make some changes to the budget, I add and reduce some items which affected the expenses, which maybe you will like to take a look at. looking forward to answer any question which you will require more explanation.AnasskokoTalk 09:10, 16 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
