Comments from WMF[edit]

Hello Mcbrarian, thank you for your submission. I had a follow up question for you:

  • I see you plan to disseminate your article broadly. Can you say more how you plan to do beyond updating the project page?

Best regards, WJifar (WMF) (talk) 21:08, 22 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi WJifar (WMF), Most of the study has been completed. When a manuscript is ready I will submit to PlosONE, an open access journal. The fees to publish in this journal, which uses the open access publication model, are $1595USD. Does this help? Mcbrarian (talk) 17:06, 23 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Additional Comments[edit]

Hello Mcbrarian, thank you for the additional comments. I did understand what you were hoping to accomplish from your proposal as well. Let me see if I can ask a different set of questions that will illuminate more of your project.

  • Since your study is complete would you be able to add bullet points to the Results section of your project page so we have a better understanding of what you will be publishing?
Yes, I can absolutely do this. I am out of town for a conference today and tomorrow. I have a break this afternoon that will give me time to do this. If I can't do it today, I will get to it on Friday evening once I have returned from the conference.
  • Will this research be able to reach the Wikimedia Community? If so, how do you hope to do this community outreach?
  1. I will link to the published journal article from the project page.
  2. I have already had a lightning talk accepted at WikiConference North America where I Will share the results of the work.
  3. I will submit a proposal to share the findings of this work at Wikimania 2020.

Please let us know your answers to these questions and we can proceed with decision making process. Best regards, WJifar (WMF) (talk) 21:44, 23 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi WJifar (WMF) , my comments are above, under each bullet. Mcbrarian (talk) 20:30, 24 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Mcbrarian, thank you for these responses. Once you've updated the project page please let me know here and I can move forward with the final review of your proposal. Best regards, WJifar (WMF) (talk) 21:59, 24 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Good morning WJifar (WMF), I have updated the project page with a brief bulleted list of results. I have also added a complete list of the references I cited in the project, in the order they will appear in the full-text article. Should the article be accepted for publication, I will link to the full-text of the article from the project page; add all the figures I included in the article (graphs, flow charts, etc). Please let me know if you require anything else.Mcbrarian (talk) 11:20, 25 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hello Mcbrarian, this is Chris Schilling, a program officer also supporting the Rapid Grants program. I wanted to make some additional recommendations for organizations and communication channels in the Wikimedia community where contributors and volunteers are likely to be interested in your research findings. We want to make sure the outcomes from your review are known and can be accessed and used by relevant communities in our movement, such as the following:
It's great to see that you are planning to present this work at WikiConference North America, so thank you for noting this in your proposal! Thanks very much for your work so far, and let me know if you have any questions around these recommendations. With thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 22:04, 30 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the ping I JethroBT (WMF). We would definitely be interested in publishing these findings on Wikimedia Space and are happy to collaborate on a post. --ELappen (WMF) (talk) 01:10, 1 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hey ELappen (WMF), the article in PLOS One was published yesterday. What do we need to do next to get a post on Wikimedia Space? Mcbrarian (talk) 16:51, 19 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Mcbrarian, instructions can be found on this Space blog post: https://space.wmflabs.org/2019/07/12/how-to-write-a-post/. As you may have seen, the Space Blog will be graduated from prototype soon and migrated to another location, but the content will remain available, so please feel free to publish. Let me know if you have any other questions. Otherwise, we'll talk through Space to get your post published! -ELappen (WMF) (talk) 21:36, 25 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
