Grants talk:Project/Rapid/Touzrimounir/One month Wikipedian in Residence in National Archives of Tunisia/Report

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Hi Touzrimounir, and thanks for your work as a Wikipedian in Residence at National Archives of Tunisia. I had some questions to better understand your experience and activities that I'll need you to respond to before I can accept the report, in addition to some comments.

  • Can you describe a little more about the roles and day-to-day activities you and Ovva olfa had during this project? Were you both engaged in the same basic activities at the institution, or different ones? It would be really helpful to hear about what a typical day at the archives.
  • Could you share a few images on your report page that you were able to scan and upload in your work that you were particularly happy with?
  • Were the staff taught any on-wiki skills? Also, were there any reasons that the staff was reluctant to create accounts? Was it difficult for them to give time outside of providing you help in finding sources?
  • It sounds like you had a productive experience working with the staff overall at the National Archives, and I'm glad to hear they were able to help you identify sources from which to find good images to illustrate article topics. It's really impressive to see how well the photos were integrated into Wikimedia projects.
  • Finally, we'll need some expense documentation from both you and Ovva olfa. First, we'll need a bank statement from you confirming you received the funds, and an e-mail confirmation from Ovva olfa that they received their funds. These can be sent to rapidgrants(_AT_)wikimedia.org. Second, I realize the expense is small, but do you have a receipt for the 15 TND in printing expenses? If so, please also send it to rapidgrants(_AT_)wikimedia.org If not, we'll just need an explanation about why it isn't available or why it can't be physically provided for documentation purposes.

When these questions have been addressed, I can approve this report, so please respond to them when you're able. Thanks for your work in preparing and integrating this content and I'm glad this effort to begin collaboration with the National Archives was successful. Take care, I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 20:55, 23 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Dear I JethroBT (WMF) ;
Thanks for your questions and comments, you find below our answers, please let me know if there is anything not clear:
  • day-to-day activities; first of all we have begun me and Olaf with a meeting with the staff of the archive to present to our activities and to help us doing the project,
during the first week: we have prepared a list of documents to be selected and to be scanned in collaboration with staff because a lot of documents not available in the archive and others documents is very sensitive,also we need to prepare an authorization for every document used, we have select the period of the history of Tunisia from 1952 to 1984, a lot of events of Tunisia without photos and informations without references, also we have use Newspapers because it is more easy to find informations
during the second and third week we have scanned documents, and we discussion with staff the benefits of the project for the wikimedia projects the work was done in to parts, the first part was done by me the second one was done by Olfa
During the fourth week we have finalised the work of scanning documents also we have present for the staff how this documents will be used in the wikimedia projects, we have try to prepare a workshop in collaboration with documentation institute but it was difficult because of time availability
  • few images on your report page; I Will add a link for the best work done
  • staff and wiki skills; as i said from the beginning we have present the wikimedia projects and GLAM for the staff and benficfs of this GLAM project for wikipedia and how they can use wikimedia, but they was very busy in their jobs and to serve documents for others visitors of the archive also there is only one PC in the archive for storing information, but the staff was very motivated to help us doing the projects.
  • expense documentationOlfa will answer this point Mounir Touzri (talk) 20:17, 24 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Touzrimounir: Thanks for this detailed response, Mounir. I now understand that the amount of preparation needed to use your time well during the month at the National Archives was considerable, and I want to applaud you and Olfa on your planning and close work with the archival staff. That there was only one PC to use is also good to know, and I'm very impressed that you were able to upload and integrate so many images in these circumstances.
