From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Comments from DSaroyan (WMF)[edit]

Hi Tulsi Bhagat, thanks for submitting this Rapid Grant proposal. I reviewed it and have some questions to clarify and better understand the work you are planning to carry out in terms of this project.

  • We now require all grantees to announce their projects and receive the community feedback in advance. Could you please announce this project and grant on the relevant community pages on the target wiki(s)? Community notification may be most appropriate on a village pump, talk page, or mailing list. Please paste a link into the proposal page to where the relevant communities have been notified of this proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions.
  • Is this grant request on behalf of any Wikimedia affiliate?
  • Could you please provide more details about the produced videos: how many tutorial videos do you plan to produce, what are the topics, video length, and other details?
  • Who will be compensated for the video production? Please add their names or usernames to the proposal page. Please also add the number of hours for each task and the compensation rate.
  • Have you considered using the available video tutorials and translating them into Maithili instead of creating new tutorials from scratch?
  • One of the targets for this project is to create a Learning pattern. Could you please provide more details about this Learning pattern too? What will be the topic and what’s the need of having it?
  • The last target is the development of “Example presentation or graph or chart as a resource”. I would also need more information about this target, to better understand what your plan is.
  • Finally, it is not clear to me what kind of research you plan to carry out. Could you kindly describe the proposed research? Some information about the need, methods, timeline, and outcomes will be really helpful.

Looking forward to hearing from you. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 08:04, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi DSaroyan (WMF), many thanks for reviewing this proposal. Please follow up with the answers below:
  • Done. Notified on the Maithili Wikipedia at village pump.
  • No, It's not.
  • Yes, of-course. We plan to produce 5 to 10 tutorial videos. The topics consist of basics of Wikipedia such as how to create an account, write the first article, use sandbox, move from sandbox to an article page, how to add images and media to an article, how to upload images locally and many more. Video length would be 2 to 5 mins. All the videos will be published under CC BY-SA license on the Wikimedia Commons, YouTube channel, and/or Maithili Wikipedia Facebook page as well.
  • Done.
  • Not really. Actually, we want to create the latest videos using the Maithili Wikipedia interface and the voice over in Maithili language. This will make it simple for newcomers to join in, to go through the interface and easy to understand the whole basics of Wikipedia.
  • Yes. The topic will be likewise: preparation to be carried out for EduWiki programs, things to know before conducting EduWiki programs or EduWiki resources for Maithili Wikipedia. I think it would be useful for new coordinators who will be organizing EduWiki programs in future.
  • Yes. For instance, XYZ will organize EduWiki programs for Maithili Wikipedia. At that time, It would be easy to explain to participants using “Example presentation or graph or chart” (which we will produce during this project days) about the situation of Maithili Wikipedia as such how many users are there, number of admins who can help them if they get into trouble, various stats, etc.. We will be producing an example presentation that would help co-ordinators to easily conduct EduWiki programs.
  • Research is basically our team’s analysis and case study on the Wikimedia Education movement. It is needed to produce resources; Our motive behind this is to look for/find out/develop effective tools and resources which can be helpful for coordinators to conduct EduWiki programs with ease. We will talk with our colleagues who have already conducted EduWiki programs in the past to get the information. We haven’t planned the timeline yet.

I hope I answered your questions and it's clear now. Feel free to ask more questions if it's still unclear. Kind regards, — Tulsi Bhagat contribs | talk ] 19:34, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
