Grants talk:Project/Rapid/US OH/2016 Projects

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Hi SuperHamster, thank you for submitting a Rapid Grant request for activities for the Ohio User Group over the next semester. It is great to hear that you are working with local organizations to participate in WLM, and we are glad to hear you will continue to host regular editathons on campus to build community. We are pleased to fund your request, and have a few suggestions to offer to incorporate the lessons you learned last semester.

  • In your report from your previous grant, you note that the Art + Feminism event brought in 14 new users, but that they did not continue to participate in events after that editathon. We have learned that many people attend the Art + Feminism events because it covers a topic that they are passionate about. You might invite those participants to nominate topics for a few of the weekly editathons you have planned, and ask them to bring friends who might be interested in helping.
  • You also noted in the previous report that you have considered using the weekly editathons to work as a group to create or improve one article at a time. If you decide to try this, we would love to hear how it goes. You might experiment with inviting different people to lead the 'presentation' part of the weekly editathon, and instead of talking about editing, have them talk for 5 minutes about a topic that they are passionate about, then work as a group to create or improve an article on that topic. The leader could be responsible for bringing a few books or sources for people to use.

Let us know if you would like to discuss these ideas or if there are other ways we can support you. We look forward to hearing about your work at the end of the term. --KHarold (WMF) (talk) 18:53, 15 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
