Grants talk:Project/Rapid/WLX and education projects in Thailand 2018
Comments from WMF
Hi Athikhun.suw. Thanks so much to you and the team for putting together this great set of projects for the next year. In addition to the projects you have been organizing successfully the last several years -- WLE, WLM, WAM, and education -- it's really nice to see some new ideas for improving the new editor experience, building more community offline, and addressing offline access. We are especially interested to hear how the mentorship program goes as this is an issue most language Wikipedias face and a model that different communities are piloting. It would also be nice to hear more details about the Kiwix project. Who are you partnering with and what will your role be in the project? What do you see as a successful outcome of the project?
Please also note that we are not able to support cash prizes anymore but vouchers are fine. Thank you for putting together such a reasonable budget.
- Thank you Alex Wang (WMF) and grant team for consideration and approval of our grant request. I appreciate your interest in our projects especially the mentorship program. For Kiwix, it will be implemented in collaboration with Dtac, a major mobile operator here in Thailand. We need more conversations and series of meetings with Dtac to give you specific details. Our role will roughly involve Kiwix installation and on-site personnel training. The outcome of the project is difficult to monitor since it will be implemented in restricted areas, though we'll try our best to see how it goes. For prizes, are products such as tablets/cameras okay? Thanks. --Athikhun.suw (talk) 07:53, 8 May 2018 (UTC)
- @AWang (WMF) and Athikhun.suw: We will buy vouchers of winner's choice. My understanding is that we try not to put a monetary value on this intangible reward. An attempt in the past was to extend the commendation to the school or employer of winners. The name of school or employer can be written in the trophy. --Taweethaも (talk) 14:41, 8 May 2018 (UTC)
