Comments and Questions from I JethroBT (WMF)[edit]

Hi Jetam2, this is Chris Schilling, a community organizer for the Wikimedia Foundation. Thanks for submitting your project to conduct several editathons around Slovakia. I've reviewed your proposal. Here are my comments and questions:

  • Can you describe where these editathons will take place in more detail?
  • Aside from yourself and Akdar, what other experienced editors might be able to help lead these editathons?
  • Can you provide links to the mailing list, Facebook page, and village pump to show where your event notices will be posted?
  • Unfortunately, the $900 USD swag request is not eligible for funding. In our funding guidelines for merchandise, we cannot provide funding for merchandise giveaways for all event participants, unless the merchandise is low cost (such as stickers or pins). A smaller merchandise purchase limited to volunteers helping to organize the event would be more appropriate in this case if the merchandise is more expensive (such as T-shirts). When you are able, please revise this budget item accordingly.
  • Can you describe what the $200 budget item for miscellaneous expenses will be used for?

Let me know if I can clarify any of my questions above. Thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 19:45, 19 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi I JethroBT (WMF) and thank you for the notes. Perhaps it should be said that this is the first project of this kind in Slovakia.
  • We plan on going to libraries or museum or other such places in towns that are local centres but are otherwise in regions that do not generally receive a lot of attention. For example: Rožňava, Spišská Nová Ves, Čadca or Komárno. The exact locations will be determined mostly based on where we can set up cooperation and send people.
  • There are others who have expressed interest but so far we have not asked them to commit publicaly.
  • Mailing list, Facebook page :Village Pump
  • So we may resubmit the budget?
  • The $200 comes from the theory that a budget should contain a certain portion for whatever unanticipated costs that may come.
Thanks!--Jetam2 (talk) 19:36, 25 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Jetam2: Thanks for your responses. Following up on your comments and questions:
  • With regard to the experienced editors who are interested in leading some of the events, we generally want to know who these editors are in advance to ensure that editors with a sufficient amount of on-wiki experience are leading events and teaching about how to contribute. I understand you and perhaps a few others from the proposed user group will be organizing and participating in these events, so I don't have serious concerns, but in the future, please try to get a firmer commitment from editors who will help lead or organize events before submitting an application. Even just one or two is helpful.
  • Regarding the budget, yes you may edit it on the proposal page at any time.
  • Finally, about the miscellaneous expenses, we can only provide 10% of the total amount of the grant as funds for unanticipated costs based on our grant agreements. So, after you revise your budget for merchandise, please revise the miscellaneous budget item to 10% of the total amount requested.
