Grants talk:Project/Rapid/WM EC/Galápagos Education Project

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Hi Edjoerv. Thank you for this proposal and all your team's work organizing the project! We are happy to see that you have developed a good partnership with the school and senior administrators. The main question we have is around sustainability of the project after the initial in-person training session. You have planned for 20hrs of in-person training for 15 teachers and 10 students. Are these participants completely new to contributing to the Wikimedia projects and using them in the classroom? If yes, what skills do you hope they will have acquired after the initial training? How will you continue their training after you leave and how many experienced Wikimedians will provide follow-up support? Thanks so much, Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 04:33, 19 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@AWang (WMF):, thanks for your input on our request. These participants are completely new to Wikimedia projects and using them in the classroom. We expect that at the end of the workshop, they will be able to edit and create articles on es.wiki, upload media to Commons and teachers will be able to work on their classes using Wikipedia as a learning tool. During our stay in Galápagos we expect to reach an agreement about on how we make our follow up sessions, and our main proposal will be online training via videochat twice a month with one experienced wikimedian (User:Madamemina) to help teachers on developing their study plans using Wikipedia and Commons, and online support while students edit by two wikimedians: User:Edjoerv and User:Lucifer8k, twice a week to follow up on their edits and help them through their talk pages.
Also I have to edit the proposal to our final request since we had a last-minute problem about one of the wikipedians that were going, so unfortunately we will only have one person traveling that will need reimbursement and one person that will travel thanks to the high school that invited us. This will reduce our requested budget to the half, but we still expect to keep our goals as we proposed them. --Edjoerv (talk) 16:01, 19 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi [User:Edjoerv|Edjoerv]]. Thanks for the additional information. I'm sorry to hear that one of the Wikipedians isn't able to travel anymore. Once you've updated the budget please let me know and I will move forward with approval. Cheers ,Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 16:14, 19 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I'm available for online support in the process, and I will be delighted to help --Lucifer8k (talk) 18:00, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
