Grants talk:Project/Rapid/Wiki Lockdown/Report

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Comments from I JethroBT (WMF)[edit]

Hello Chukydyk, and thanks for your report for Wiki Lockdown, where you supported undergraduate volunteers to participate in Wikimedia projects during the COVID-19 lockdown in Nigeria. Thank for you very much for your reporting on these efforts. I am accepting this report with the following comments and questions:

  • Thanks for letting us know about connectivity issues that you were facing during these events. I am glad you are thinking about how to support participants who you could not communicate with in realtime. Providing them a recording or materials to refer to can be beneficial. Has the Telegram group been helpful for keeping in touch with participants? Do participants sometimes use it after the event to ask questions or seek guidance about contributing or other events?
  • Congratulations on having a high level of participation given the limitations and obstacles you were facing in these activities. I think it's great you were able to attract a lot of interest in the group and in your immediate activities.
  • Can you describe or link to the materials or resources you used for training?

With thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 21:50, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello I JethroBT (WMF),

Thank you so much for your word of encouragement.

  • Yes the Telegram group has been helpful in keeping in touch with participants both new and old members. We continue to use the platform to train and publicize upcoming Wikipedia events. Basically it houses our training activities and keeps our newly growing community alive.
  • Yes, participants both old and new editors ask and seek guidance on the group and I also encourage them to bring up any issue related to Wikimedia to the group for other members to contribute and learn.

Best Regard Chukydyk
