Report accepted[edit]

Hi, ranjithsiji, thank you for submitting this final report. We have also received your expense documentation. I have reviewed and accepted both. Congratulations, this grant is now complete!

  • Congratulations on such a successful event. It's not easy to complete an event with as many different components as yours had, and, as you mentioned, one challenged you faced was not having enough time for planning. We're happy to hear that you met all your goals even in the face of both those challenges.
  • Thank you for sharing all the events that the group has organized since WikiSangamotsavam 2018. You have been very busy! Have you seen new editors recruited at WikiSangamotsavam 2018 attend these subsequent events?
  • You mentioned that next time you plan to organize the event using teams focused on different aspects. That is a very smart strategy for an event this large or with this many different components. It not only ensures that all parts of the planning get equal attention, it also ensures that if one of the organizers needs can't complete his or her work the whole event isn't jeopardized.
  • You mentioned problems with IP filter restrictions. For future events, would it help to have participants create accounts in advance?

Thank you again for all your hard work on this grant. We appreciate you sharing what you learned with WMF and the community.

Warmly, LSmith (WMF) (talk) 18:36, 14 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for accepting my report of Wikisangamotsavam 2018. Yes I was busy with the events. Organising events and completing reports on time is a challenging process. So I made a strategy to write reports with events. Most of the event pages are created at the starting of events.
  • The things happened in this way and we are forced to do it this way. The grant applied by Mujeeb Rahman was to celebrate Wikidata Birthday on October but it was sanctioned at the end of December. At first we had a plan to celebrate Wikidata with Engineering colleges in central Kerala. But the plan slipped, then we approached them again. Most of the institutions sanctioned dates for workshops after January. So we are very busy after Wikisangamotsavam to organise all the workshops.
  • Most of the new people participated in Wikisangamotsavam are from Kodungallur. We had two workshops there before Wikisangamotsavam. Most of the students from Colleges, Schools are came from those workshops. All the subsequent events are happened at various places of Kerala. Some of the plans and requests are started at Wikisangamotsavam itself. Yes, we found some of the new editors from Wikisangamotsavam organized some new events at their colleges.
  • This time we cannot focus on other wiki projects like Wikisource, Wiktionary, Wikivoyage. In fact we had a plan to launch Wikivoyage in Malayalam. So the coming year our main focus will be that.
  • Creating accounts in advance is not working. We tried that already. People participating the events are new to Wikiprojects. People don't know that they can edit Wikipedia. Usually we will explain about Wikipedia and Wikimedia projects. Then people ask how to create account. Then the things go on. Raising IP filters is also not working. Because we usually use the internet connection from the college. We get the IP at the begining of the event. So request for IP release will not work. We are bypassing this by using various internet connections from participants. We usually keep 4-5 connections on hand. But hitting of the "action throttiled error" in Wikidata is real serious. Most of the people are new editors. They are trying from same connection and things are just not work. If any kind of trusted user system in Wikidata for events will be helpfull.

UPDATE : Last event -> Introduction to Wikidata at Rajagiri School of Engineering & Technology, Kakkanad, Kochi on 15th March 2019.
