Report accepted[edit]

Hello Samatics, thank you for running this Wikipedia 20 celebration event at Badagry Slave Museum and Black History Museum․ I reviewed this final report and I was glad to learn more about the activities you carried out and contributions you made. I have a few questions that I’d like you to respond to:

  • Did you have permission to take photos at the museums? How did you choose what objects to photograph and use in Wikimedia projects?
  • Could you please share the category of all photos from these museums?
  • From what you reported, I can see that you created and edited amazing and important articles. Could you please provide a link to the Outreach Dashboard or any other wiki project page that used to track participants’ contributions?
  • I’m really happy that you had a wonderful Wikipedia 20 celebration! What was the best thing about it?
  • Your photos look great! Thanks so much for sharing them with us!
  • You mentioned that you had 28 new editors. How did you engage them?

Thanks again for your contributions to the Wikimedia Movement. I’m accepting the final report and expense documents for this grant. Wishing you all the best for your future initiatives! Best, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 17:17, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Response[edit]

Thank you for reviewing the report and for the kind words of encouragement. Please find below my response:

  • Except for the national museum where no photos were allowed to be taken every other museums in Badagry town are overseen by locals. Ability to speak the local language (gun language) helped a great deal to explain to the museum guides purpose of our tour and the significance of the celebration. Most of the items at the museums are relics associated with slavery and black history.
  • Unfortunately at the time of upload we did not categorize the photos but this is an area I plan to work on now. Here is an example photos:
Original bible and glasses used by Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther
  • Dashboard
  • It was an eye-opener to participants to learn about wikipedia and understand that it is free and open and that they can all contribute. Most of the participants look forward to a time when they can read a wikipedia article in their local language. Though we are working on the Gun Wikipedia in the incubator.
  • Thank you for finding our photos beautiful.
  • I engaged them primarily on whatsapp and on a weekly basis throws in tips and quiz on notability and reliable source. I also make sure I attach a mentor to every four persons in the group to an experienced editor. And recently, I held a follow up training.
