Grant approved (1,800,000 MXN for 12 months)[edit]

Wikimedia México’s grant is approved in the amount of 1,800,000 MXN for 12 months. WMMX is running award-winning programs, including gender-focused work, and work with indigenous languages. They have meaningfully engaged partners at the national and local levels, and are acting as a convenor for organizations working in the open knowledge and GLAM fields. WMMX has found strategies for working in a challenging environment with significant obstacles, navigating everything from natural disasters to significant changes in the political climate.

WMMX is receiving an increase over last year’s grant to hire an executive director, as part of a multiyear growth plan. We hope this change will help WMMX work toward a more sustainable organization in the long run, with roles clearly delineated among board and staff. We see that WMMX is making positive changes in their governance and financial systems in the current year, and also that they have welcomed more people into leadership roles within the organization. We encourage WMMX to continue to focus on organizational health as well as programmatic effectiveness in the upcoming year.

We admire WMMX’s dedication to their programs and care for their communities. At the same time, it has sometimes been a challenge for WMMX to comply with requirements related to their grants. As their budget grows, we urge WMMX to pay careful attention to these requirements, so that compliance issues never interfere with their ability to get resources to do their program work. Expectations in this area will be raised with the hiring of an Executive Director.

We are proud to support WMMX’s work in the upcoming year, and excited about what these new organizational changes may bring WMMX and the movement. Winifred Olliff (WMF Program Officer) talk 18:50, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Relocation of resources for online activities[edit]

Hi!

Due to the health contingency, we are planning some online activities. One of them is an edition contest and we though it would be a good idea to give prizes to motivate people to edit while they are at home. For this, we would use 5,000 MXN (current 207,98 USD).

Secondly, we are organizing the national photography contest Wiki Loves Mexico in collaboration with Ministry of Culture of Mexico. However, this time the Ministry will not be able to sponsor the prizes. For this reason, we would like use part of our grant to give the prizes to winners. For this, we would use 15,000 MXN (current 622,63 USD).

The total will be 20,000 MXN (830,61 USD). Both are from our Content Creation program.

Thanks

Approval of Reallocation[edit]

Hello Claudia Muñoz (WMMX), thank you for putting your reallocation request here on Meta. We understand the need to shift resources to new activities to comply with COVID-19 restrictions around events. I am approving your request. Request to save money[edit]

Hello!
This year, we organized Wiki Loves Mexico photography contest. We originally wanted to do a face to face exhibition with the winning photographs printed. However, due to the pandemic, we could not do it before the end of this grant, but we would like to carry it out as soon as circumstances allow. Also, we already have the winning photographs, however, because there are no open printing offices, we were unable to print the photos now, so we request to save the money for the next few months in which we can make the exhibition. The amount is 10000 MXN (current 437 USD). Best, --Claudia Muñoz (WMMX) (talk) 00:06, 4 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
