Simple APG Committee recommendation[edit]

We recommend that Wikimedia Polska receive a grant in the amount of $93,000 USD for one year and six months. In this annual plan, Wikimedia Polska is continuing to execute on the organizational audit recommendations it conducted in 2018. It will focus on building capacity, improving internal processes and diversification of income. The committee recognizes that this last piece is especially important as WMPL’s overall income will be impacted by the pandemic. We understand that the collective pie of 1% of Yearly Income Tax will be reduced by the economic effects of COVID-19. Furthermore, there is now increased competition for these funds by other NGOs. Even though the combination of these factors paint a daunting picture for the overall income of WMPL we are hopeful that the new leadership of the group armed with a sound 3 - year strategic plan and early funding from WMF will be able to support and grow their community.

Wikimedia Polska grant is approved in the amount of $93,000 USD for 18 months[edit]

Congratulations! This grant is approved in the amount of $93,000 USD, with the grant term starting on July 1, 2020 and ending on December 31, 2021.

We are excited to see that Wikimedia Polska has new leadership and the first paid manager as the Chief Operating Officer. This shift will strengthen Wikimedia Polska’s resolve to work on internal processes and diversification of funding sources. We are hopeful that by the time the 18 months are complete we will be able to see new systems that have been in place that better support the group’s programmatic and funding needs.

While we understand the focus of Wikimedia Polska right now is capacity building we’re still excited to see the different programming the group will have for the community.

Lastly, on March 12, 2020, the grants team shared a message from Katherine Maher, our Executive Director, regarding grant-funded programs during the COVID-19 pandemic. As you know we’ve asked all grantees to cancel or postpone all offline (in-person) public events funded by WMF. We will reach out in a few months to discuss what adjustments you plan to make around COVID-19. We appreciate your hard work during this time especially and look forward to tackling this challenge together.

Request for 2020 report deadline extension[edit]

Dear WMF Grants Team,

we have an overdue annual report for 2020 (originally due in mid April).

I'd like to request an extension until August 15, if that's possible.

Unfortunately internal matters absorbed us in the first half of the year. We're almost caught up with reporting and have filed the relevant 2020 documents with Polish authorities and are now waiting for approval of financial documents to be approved by our oversight committee or AGM. Work on reporting for WMF is coming next.

Thanks in advance for your understanding.

Kind regards,

Łukasz Garczewski, WMPL COO (TOR)

@TOR: Thanks for this information regarding conflicts with other, related reporting obligations, Łukasz. I'm happy to approve the extension until 15 August. Relatedly, I also wanted to ask whether these internal matters or filings will affect your schedule for final reporting due on 30 January 2022. Do you have any concerns around that deadline at this time? With thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 18:55, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@I JethroBT (WMF): At this time we do not expect delays in submitting the final report and plan to submit it by January 30, 2022. --TOR (talk) 17:32, 14 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
