Annual plan grant approved (13,400 Euro for 12 months)[edit]

We are approving a grant of 13,400 Euro for 12 months, which is consistent with last year’s grant amount. WRS-UG plans to continue their activities in the areas of GLAM and education. Their plan for the upcoming year, is more or less a copy of their plan for the current year. This means that the committee’s concerns from last year about community health (around burnout and working within the organization’s capacity) from last year remain largely unaddressed.

WRS-UG continues to do admirable work with respect to planning and reporting on their activities, especially for an organization of their size and with such limited resources.

In the long term, we are not sure that organizations with a limited geographic and linguistic scope like WRS-UG fit within the annual plan grants program, especially without evidence of coalition-building or significant cooperation with other groups working in the same country or language. This may mean that WRS-UG may need to transition back to a project-based funding model in future years, or find another source of funding for their operating expenses.

This will need to be discussed further over the next year, so that we can determine the best path forward for WRS-UG.

Program changes[edit]

Dear Program Officer and WMF staff,


Based on our earlier conversation, I'm submitting a request for program changes. Due to the COVID19 situation, we are forced to adapt the activities to the situation. This is our proposal:

  • themed competitions and/or an online editing marathon (Wikipedia - Online) Budget: EUR 4400 (prizes, the cost of sending the prize, thanksgiving card, etc.). There will be at least four or five competitions. The competitions have proven to be very useful and we have good results in the organization.
  • promotional material and brochures. this material has been found to be very useful especially during educational workshops. Budget: EUR 1500 (we will customize and update the texts of the existing material but we will design ours as well. This material will be used for our future activities and now we have time to work on adapting it and prices are cheaper now.
  • one of the biggest problems in realizing our activities was the lack of equipment. We need a projector for the most necessary thing. The projector would be used according to the guidelines and WMF rules that apply to the purchase of the technique, which means that everyone from our community will have access to and can use it for wiki projects. Budget: EUR 850.
  • reserve in case of unforeseen situations and the rest. This money will be kept and at the end of the grant, we will return the money or request a redirection for future grant. Budget: EUR 700.
