Grants talk:TPS/Wikimedia Brasil/Campus Party 2013

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Thanks for this detailed request, and I'm glad to see thought has gone into discarding what doesn't work and experimenting with news ideas that may work better.

  1. Could you clarify whether any people from Sao Paolo are attending as well? Asaf Bartov (WMF Grants) talk 05:33, 28 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Could you clarify the follow-up steps intended for those people you would be able to motivate to sign up for mailing lists? Would they just start getting general PTWP correspondence (with the usual high-jargon and sometimes high-drama discussions)? Or is it some other mailing list, specifically targeting those newbies and offering them relevant content aimed at them and encouraging them to get involved?

It seems to me it would be best to think of a number of different low-barrier activities (not everyone is cut out to compose new articles), such as finding photos on Commons to use in articles, or fixing dead links, or proofreading and style editing, or proofreading on Wikisource, etc. etc., and really prepare some good introductions to those tasks, in concise "how to" format, so that you can gradually run those introductions-and-how-tos, maybe one type of activity every week or two, in e-mail to the newbies you might recruit at Campus Party. 1. Vitor Mazuco, from Santo Andre (metropolitan area of Sao Paulo) is going to attend CPBR fulltime. Victor Andrade, from Carapicuiba, (greater Sao Paulo as well) is going to attend two days (the days we are going to concentrate the most laborious taks) and Everton Zanella Alvarenga (ezalvaranga), from Sao Paulo, is going to attend one day or two.

The number of volunteers is enough for us and it's perfectly possible to realize all the seven goals appointed in the page.

2. Hmmm, you actually gave me a great idea. We are going to use the traditional mailing list to this, it's our official channel (after brwiki) and all the discussions about the projects in activity and the project ideas, the potential events, and interesting news pass in there.

We from WMBR don't use the jargons regularly, it was a kind of consensus for us (even ourselves were lost in this ocean of jargons sometimes), so it's not a problem at all. We use really friendly language. About the "sometimes high-drama discussions", yeah, it's a reality (just sometimes), it's really off and on.

I didn't have this idea yet, but it's a nice idea and I'm going to discuss it with the community to put into practice in the Campus Party. Can't guarantee anything, though, since it's a community decision.

Comment answer: Another good idea. It fits in the 4th workline perfectly. And it's even nicer we are going to go out of the wikipedia-editing, that was always the target. I'm going to plan this out with the other attendees and you will see more details about in the participation report, if approved. MetalBrasil (talk) 18:18, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
