About your submission[edit]

Dear shchung, Thank you for this submission and welcome back! Congratulations on your presentation being accepted at OpenSym again this year. In reviewing your request, the committee has the following question/feedback for you:

  1. You may remember from your submission last year that there was a concern about your contribution record. It appears that it has not improved much. You did let us know that you have had significant work offline related to Wikimedia projects, specifically with Wikibooks. Would you please give us an update on the progress with your proposed Wikibooks initiatives and collaborative work mentioned on your grant report last year? Are there other contributions or work done since your participation last year that you’d like to share with us?
  2. We encourage you to share your knowledge with the community through creating learning patterns or improving existing ones. Your experience and knowledge on your work with Wikibooks, developing quality OER, etc. would be useful to many. This would not only increase your community engagement but also your impact online.

Looking forward to hearing from you. -- Best wishes, Jtud (WMF) (talk) 21:02, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Jtud (WMF),

First of all, thank you once again for reviewing my application. For the Artificial Intelligence Wikibooks, we have started to engage with AI Wikibooks as a support for teaching resources in distance learning environment for the course of Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence and Applications of Artificial Intelligence. Students and teaching assistants have been briefed on the benefits of Wikibooks and its content suitability as distance learning support. The use of Wikibooks as learning resources in distance learning environment has also been introduced to more academic members and teaching assistants to utilize Wikibooks platform in the learning pathway.

Programming Fundamentals with Java, an online computing course with Java Programming Wikibook content has been revised during end of the semester to ensure the course content are up to date with Wikibooks content such as useful and practical programming exercises, illustrative pictorial diagram, self-explanatory introductory programming concept, examples, activities, self-test questions and unit practice exercises that were derived from Java Programming Wikibook from time to time.

The newly developed high-level course namely Software Scalability and Reengineering uses four quality Wikibooks resources including Introduction to Software Engineering, A-Level Computing, Embedded Systems, Embedded Control Systems Design has been successfully completed with good evaluations from external reviewers. During the development of the course content, benefits are derived while orientating the Wikibooks repositories towards the subject course. I have the opportunity to demonstrate and showcase highlighting the Wikibooks repositories, explored the issues of locating appropriate Wikibooks resources and Wikibooks policies to new content writers, instructional designer from multiple institutions as well as academic members who are interested in Wikibooks project. I am agreeable with the committees' feedbacks that a learning pattern can be created to share with others for developing more quality OER and creating OER with the use of Wikibooks. The creation of OER using Wikibooks as a learning pattern will be highly appreciated as a good academic descriptors as well as recommended strategy and at the same time reaching out to more interested individuals.

Thank you for your considerations. Shchung (talk) 20:35, 24 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Additional hotel costs approved[edit]

Dear Jtud (WMF), I would like to inform that I am currently having difficulties finding the accommodation for the conference as the recommended place to stay is fully booked during 18th-21st August 2015. The nearest cheap motel to stay is in Marina district which is approximately USD165 per night. Thank you Jtud (WMF) for your kind considerations and generous support from Wikimedia which is very much appreciated. Shchung (talk) 16:09, 13 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dear shchung, Your request for the increase in hotel costs at 165 USD per night is approved; it is within reasonable range as the published rate. I have updated your request page to reflect the budget increase. -- Best, Jtud (WMF) (talk) 21:59, 13 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
