Backstory[edit]

Dr. Chiemezie Atama was introduced to Wikimedia project by Associate Prof. Ngozi Osadebe User:Ngozi osadebe who saw her passion for promoting equity and open knowledge through programs that she organizes in Nsukka and told her that she would like her to join Wikimedians in promoting knowledge equity. Being her passion, she did not hesitate to join. Since then, she has participated in many Wikimedia projects including Equity Watch Initiative Art + Feminism_Wikipedia Edit-a-thon 2022, SPURG Art and Feminism English Wikipedia edit-a-thon, Train The Trainers Nigeria South-East program, Wikimedain 2022 conference among others. Dr. Chiemezie Atama a campaigner of open knowledge and equity, saw the need to involve more academics, non-academics, students and others in Wikimedia programs by creating awareness and trainings in Enugu and other places particularly focusing on promoting the cultural heritage of the Igbos and in particular Enugu people. She took the responsibility of organizing the IG Enugu Wiki Hub that will leverage both in-person and online tutorial sessions for new editors which is aimed at increasing awareness, participation and improving Igbo content (Nigeria) on Wikipedia, Igbo Wikipedia and other sister project of the Wikimedia Foundation.

Dr Chiemezie Atama was amazed that Wikimedia could be leveraged on to promote the cultural heritage of a people when she encountered the Igbo Wikimedia User Group in Akwa, Anambra State during the Train-The-Trainers program organized for the Wikimedians in the South-East Nigeria. That encouraged her to move for the creation of the IG Enugu Wiki hub and with the help of Tochi Precious Friday, it has become a reality.
