Languages you work with (on-wiki or off-wiki):

[edit]
  • I am currently working with my own language Angika, and other South Asian languages like Tulu, Mising, Kannada, Santali, Ho, Khadia, Eastern Tharu, Arebhase, Bangru, Tamil, Paudhi Punjabi, Magahi etc. These languages were represented by current participants of the project series Indic oral cultures I have been managing since 2021.

Have you participated in any Train the Trainer or similar Wikimedia training before? If yes, please mention the name of the event along with the year in which you participated

[edit]
  • Yes, TTT 2023

Are you currently involved in any leadership, facilitation, or mentoring roles within the Wikimedia movement? If yes, briefly describe the imitative and your involvement in it

[edit]
  • Yes, I have been involved in all the three roles within the Wikimedia movement. I have been the project manager for the Indic oral culture projects which facilitates oral culture documentation and thus representation of non-dominant languages of South Asia. In addition, I have been facilitating workshops supported by Wikitongues and Rising Voices for awareness building and training of Angika Wikipedians.

Track Preference

[edit]

Your preferred track during the workshop

[edit]
  • Track 1: Evaluation, Impact, and Data Storytelling
  • Track 2: Project Design Challenge – From Learning to Action
  • I am interested in Evaluation, Impact, and Data Storytelling. The volunteer participants of the Indic oral culture projects have been working on documenting and digitizing oral culture on Wikimedia platforms, thus enhancing the presence of underrepresented knowledge systems and languages online. In order to build on the interest and pace of the contributions of such dedicated volunteers, it is essential that the impact is evaluated and shared via various storytelling methods. Learning these skills will help me facilitate the same skills among the volunteer citizen archivists while including practical skills among the training modules. This will have a long-term impact in terms of representation, in-depth changes in attitudes towards oral culture documentation, and usage of Wikimedia projects widely and creatively within the realm of diverse knowledge systems.

Which track are you most interested in and why?

[edit]
  • I am interested in Evaluation and impact because I believe that the audio-visual and linguistic data collected by the participants of Indic oral culture projects can be better amplified by evaluation of their impact and digital storytelling, this expanding towards their potential usage not only on Wikimedia projects but also education and research.

Tell us about one Wikimedia program, campaign, or initiative you’ve contributed to in a leadership role

[edit]
  • Angika Wikipedia, the Indic oral culture projects

What skills or knowledge do you hope to gain from this training?

[edit]
  • Impact evaluation, digital storytelling, data visualisation.

Based on your selected track, what is one challenge you have encountered in either evaluating Wikimedia programs or designing impactful projects? Please share your experience relevant to your chosen track.

[edit]
  • It is tough to use dashboards to evaluate contest results, also it can be difficult to obtain data about page views of videos etc.

How do you plan to apply what you learn after the event?

[edit]
  • I plan to hold online awareness and implementation workshop/s for past and current participants of the oral culture projects and other interested volunteers.

(Optional) Are you open to mentorship (either receiving or offering it)?

[edit]
  • Yes
