[edit]
  • I am an active contributor to Punjabi Wikisource and Wikipedia. Recently, I have started teaching Wikipedia at SEABA International Public School, Lehragaga. There, I educate students about Wikimedia projects and help them get involved. The students have started contributing to Wiki Projects. I have also started teaching both Wikisource and Wikipedia, and I plan to run more collaborative projects with SEABA School. Additionally, I am a secondary grantee for the Punjabi Wikimedians Annual Grantee.

Track Preference

[edit]

Your preferred track during the workshop

[edit]
  • Track 1: Evaluation, Impact, and Data Storytelling
  • Track 2: Project Design Challenge – From Learning to Action
    • Track 2: Project Design Challenge – From Learning to Action

Which track are you most interested in and why?

[edit]
  • The Micro-Project Design Challenge track matches my interests because I have started teaching Wikipedia at SEABA International Public School. I want to improve my leadership and project design skills to make this work more effective. My goal is to collaborate more with other institutions and schools. At SEABA International Public School, I aim to involve more students in Wikipedia activities. This track aligns well with both my interests and my current work. It allows me to engage students and other new users in contributing to Wikipedia.Previously, I have collaborated with CIS-A2K and organized an event under the She Leads program.

Tell us about one Wikimedia program, campaign, or initiative you’ve contributed to in a leadership role

[edit]
  • A campaign She Leads was launched by CIS-A2k. Under this I conducted Women Focused One Day Editathon 2024 in Patiala. 18 users participated in it. In this editathon, the book pages in Wikisource were proofread. Articles related to women were created on Wikipedia. On March 17, 2024, a "Women-Focused One Day Edit-a-thon 2024" was held in Patiala to celebrate Women’s Month. Both new and experienced people joined the event, with many women taking part. The event started with a short session where everyone introduced themselves. After that, the purpose of the edit-a-thon was explained. Participants learned how to edit Wikipedia articles about women. They were shown how to fix mistakes, add more information, and what to keep in mind when writing new articles. Everyone was encouraged to start editing during the session.

  • I was the primary grantee at the Punjabi Wikimedians conference. 50 new users participated in this conference. At this conference I had a session on wikisource information, proofreading and validation. During the session, new users also proofread pages of a book on Wikisource.

  • Feminism and Folklore : I organized the Feminism and Folklore 2024 online campaign this year on Punjabi Wikipedia. In which participants created 1737 articles. 10 users participated in it.

What skills or knowledge do you hope to gain from this training?

[edit]
  • I have started teaching Wikipedia in a school, so I want to improve my leadership and project design skills. I also hope to learn how to collaborate more effectively with other institutions and schools. At SEABA International Public School, I aim to involve more students in Wikipedia, and this training will help me better guide and support them in contributing to Wikimedia projects.

Based on your selected track, what is one challenge you have encountered in either evaluating Wikimedia programs or designing impactful projects? Please share your experience relevant to your chosen track.

[edit]
  • Whenever I design a project I struggle with developing a clear strategy. I often see to other people's projects for guidance but I don’t properly understand the vision or purpose behind them. I also find it difficult to define the scope of a project properly. These areas are challenging for me due to a lack of understanding. Although I am actively working to improve, I still need to develop better skills in planning, defining goals, and creating effective project structures.

How do you plan to apply what you learn after the event?

[edit]
  • As I already mentioned I am teaching Wikipedia at SEABA School. One of my key focus areas will be designing projects specifically for the students there. I am also an active contributor to Wikisource and have delivered training sessions. In addition, I have contributed to grant proposals, like the one I previously mentioned. However, I have not yet been able to contribute on an individual level as much as I would like to. I am confident that after this activity, getting all the things from here, I can make those things possible.

(Optional) Are you open to mentorship (either receiving or offering it)?

[edit]
  • Yes, I am open to both receiving and offering mentorship. I want to learned a lot from experienced Wikimedians who have trained me and I am now ready to mentor newcomers and support the Wikimedia movement.
