Basic Information
[edit]Wikimedia Username
[edit]Wikimedia Project(s) you primarily contribute to
[edit]- I primarily contribute to the Bengali Wikipedia. Alongside this, I have contributed to Wikimedia Commons. I have also contributed on and supported initiatives on Wikidata.
Active in Wikimedia since (Year)
[edit]- I have been actively contributing to Wikimedia projects since 2014. I celebrated my eleventh anniversary on this platform, a little less than a month ago. While my initial engagement started with editing and small-scale contributions, my deeper involvement began in 2016 when I attended the CIS-organised Train the Trainer (TTT) program in Bengaluru.

Have you participated in any Train the Trainer or similar Wikimedia training before? If yes, please mention the name of the event along with the year in which you participated
[edit]- I was fortunate to participate in the 2016 edition of CIS-organised Train the Trainer (TTT) in Bengaluru. This was the second iteration of the event. It was one of my earliest offline Wikimedia events and it left a lasting impact on me. The program equipped me with facilitation skills and a network of peers. I remain grateful to the then program manager, Mr. Tito Dutta, for his encouragement and mentorship during that phase.
Are you currently involved in any leadership, facilitation, or mentoring roles within the Wikimedia movement? If yes, briefly describe the imitative and your involvement in it
[edit]- I often take on the role of a coordinator for Bengali-language edit-a-thons and online campaigns. I have acted as a bridge between new contributors and experienced editors, supporting mentorship through one-on-one assistance. These efforts have helped in nurturing newer community members while ensuring continuity in participation.
Wiki Loves Earth (WLE) Philippines 2024 Jury: I served as a jury member for Wiki Loves Earth Philippines 2024, evaluating high-quality photographic contributions that promote free knowledge about natural heritage.
CPUG: As a member of the Commons Photographers User Group, I actively participated in discussions and initiatives aimed at improving visual content.
Core Organizing Team, WikiConference India 2023: I was part of the Operations Committee of WikiConference India 2023, an event that brought together contributors from across India. My role included logistical planning, coordinating with participants and ensuring smooth execution of the event.
Track Preference
[edit]Your preferred track during the workshop
[edit]- Track 1: Evaluation, Impact, and Data Storytelling
Which track are you most interested in and why?
[edit]- I am most interested in Track 1 because it brings together two areas that I deeply care about: Wikimedia programs and data-driven analytics. Professionally, I work extensively with analytics and reporting. Within Wikimedia, I have seen how campaigns often generate impressive outputs but lack structured evaluation and impact measurement. I believe my background in analytics positions me well to understand and apply quantitative as well as qualitative evaluation methods.
Tell us about one Wikimedia program, campaign, or initiative you’ve contributed to in a leadership role
[edit]- I particularly value my role as a coordinator in Bengali Wikipedia edit-a-thons. At times, I have been lauded by fellow Bengali wikimedians of having engaged well with new editors and fostering collaborative participation. I have also consistently tried to not limit my participation to just coordinating, but contribute to increasing high-quality Bengali content, as well.
The impact was visible not only in the increase in the number of articles created and improved, but also in the retention of a few promising new contributors, who later became active editors. However, I can further improve on post-event documentation. I believe evaluation and reporting are important for understanding the true long-term effect of such initiatives.
What skills or knowledge do you hope to gain from this training?
[edit]- From this training, my goal is to learn how to adapt professional analytical frameworks into the Wikimedia context, so that community efforts are not just documented but also communicated effectively through stories.
Since I already use tools and methods for data analysis and visualization, I would now want to learn how to translate those analytics skills into the Wikimedia ecosystem, where evaluation is not just about metrics but also about community growth and knowledge equity.
Based on your selected track, what is one challenge you have encountered in either evaluating Wikimedia programs or designing impactful projects? Please share your experience relevant to your chosen track.
[edit]- One recurring challenge I have faced is in measuring qualitative outcomes, such as whether participants continue editing after an event. While metrics like “number of edits” and “articles created” are easy to track, they often don’t capture long-term impact and editor retention.
Evaluation frameworks need to balance both quantitative and qualitative measures. I look forward to learning systematic approaches to address this gap during the training.
How do you plan to apply what you learn after the event?
[edit]- I believe, after the conclusion of the event, this blend of Wikimedia-specific evaluation knowledge with my analytics background will help me play a stronger role in leading campaigns and supporting the Bengali Wikimedia community with meaningful impact documentation.
(Optional) Are you open to mentorship (either receiving or offering it)?
[edit]- Yes, absolutely. I am open to both receiving mentorship and offering it. Having benefitted immensely from mentorship during my early Wikimedia years, I believe it is my responsibility to extend the same support to newer contributors.
