[edit]I am a sysop of Assamese Wikipedia and a founding member of the Assamese Wikimedia Community User Group. I served as a mentor and coordinator of the Assamese Wikimedia Mentorship Program (WikiSanjog), where I organized training, provided guidance, and supported new contributors. I have also regularly facilitated online and offline community meetups, project launches, and knowledge-sharing sessions. Currently, I am leading a rapid grant project titled Wiki Loves Assamese Culture.
Track Preference
[edit]Your preferred track during the workshop
[edit]Track 2: Micro-Project Design Challenge – From Learning to Action
Which track are you most interested in and why?
[edit]I am most interested in the Micro-Project Design Challenge because my current work involves initiating and managing small-scale yet impactful community projects, such as “Wiki Loves Assamese Culture” and “Grantha Yatra.” I want to enhance my ability to design well-structured projects that align with community needs and have measurable outcomes.
Tell us about one Wikimedia program, campaign, or initiative you’ve contributed to in a leadership role
[edit]- WikiSanjog– Assamese Wikimedia Mentorship Program: This program connects experienced Wikimedians with newcomers, fostering skill development, motivation, and long-term engagement. It has improved community retention, encouraged quality contributions, and created a more supportive environment for growth. I learned the importance of clear goals, consistent follow-up, and adapting strategies based on feedback.
What skills or knowledge do you hope to gain from this training?
[edit]I hope to gain hands-on skills in planning projects more effectively—setting realistic timelines, defining clear success indicators, and making sure activities truly match our community’s priorities. I also want to learn better ways to document and share the impact of a project so that it not only sustains itself but also has the potential to grow and inspire others.
Based on your selected track, what is one challenge you have encountered in either evaluating Wikimedia programs or designing impactful projects? Please share your experience relevant to your chosen track.
[edit]One challenge I often face is turning the community’s initial excitement into steady participation throughout a project. For instance, during the WikiSanjog mentorship program, we started with great energy, but engagement dropped midway as people got caught up with other priorities. I want to build the skills and tools to keep participants motivated, overcome such dips, and ensure the project moves smoothly toward its goals.
How do you plan to apply what you learn after the event?
[edit]I plan to apply the learnings to design future Assamese Wikimedia projects with stronger community participation strategies, clearer evaluation methods, and improved resource planning. I will also share the knowledge with my community through workshops, online meetups, and practical project guides so more members can initiate and lead impactful projects.
(Optional) Are you open to mentorship (either receiving or offering it)?
[edit]Yes – both receiving and offering mentorship.
