Which track are you most interested in and why?

  • I am interested in the Project Design Challenge – From Learning to Action track. As a heritage hunter by passion and author I like to field work and documentation of information. My role involve guiding participants in documenting heritage, culture and age old records, uploading videos to Wikimedia Commons, as well as writing articles in Wikipedia with references. This track somehow attached with my activities in wiki because it emphasizes turning knowledge into practical outcomes. It create meaningful impact and long-term engagement in the broader aspect of Wikimedia movement for preservation of information, which is open to all.

Tell us about one Wikimedia program, campaign, or initiative you’ve contributed to in a leadership role

  • I am one of the wikimedian who work individually without any project or any type of financial assistance of any wiki-project. Single handedly I uploaded more than 24K images in commons uploaded images Pinakpani and which were used in 3735 Wikimedia pages or in various projects in wikimedia Used images of Pinakpani.
  • I have also created more than 2100 articles including English and Bengali wikipedia (Eng articles and Beng articles)
  • I am proud to declare that my first book, Seisob Shahidera, is a book written in Bengali on the biographies of various martyrs, which I have donated to Bengali wikisource, bn.wikisource.org_Seisob Shahidera/ free of copyright, and which researchers can use completely free of charge.
  • My global edit contribution is more than 136K My global edit and I always tried to edit constructively in articles. I am also a reference hunter, continuously enrich articles providing reliable sources in off time.
  • Being a government officer by profession, I have had the opportunity and access to upload photos of various government offices, like Supreme Court of India, Shastri Bhawan, Writers' Building, Calcutta High Court, West Bengal Legislative Assembly etc. where the general contributors cannot visit normally but I have uploaded number of images in various Wikimedia projects according to the guidelines.

What skills or knowledge do you hope to gain from this training?

  • Skills in designing effective micro-projects, small, manageable projects, and to develop knowledge in the Wikipedia platform for more supportive environment for development.
  • Importance of neutrality, and reliable sources as I am working mainly in wiki articles without references to enrich them.
  • Evaluating the notability and Understanding plagiarism
  • Wikipedia markup and syntax

Based on your selected track, what is one challenge you have encountered in either evaluating Wikimedia programs or designing impactful projects? Please share your experience relevant to your chosen track.

  • As I works it's much difficult to measure the quality of content, long-term engagement, and it's real-world impact.
  • Many projects started initially with active participation but fail to maintain funding or resource person support ends.
  • Limited energy of volunteers due to sufficient time or editing experience.

How do you plan to apply what you learn after the event?

  • I will share the experiences and learnings with my community so that they can be apply the knowledge and expanded further. A report will be submitted to our Telegram group regarding the workshop sharing my experience.
  • My aim to use these knowledge to strengthen communities by encouraging collaboration across various user groups. New contributors and volunteers may be enlightened regarding Project Design Challenge, which is obviously something new to learn in wikimedia world of education.
