- Track 2: Project Design Challenge – From Learning to Action
Which track are you most interested in and why?
[edit]- Track 1: Evaluation, Impact, and Data Storytelling : I would like to explore and find new ways, new tools, data enriched engaging reports to showcase the Output of various kinds of Programmes like Edit-a-thons, Data-a-thons, Photography Campaigns and Hackathons. I would like to explore new ways to motivate new editors, developers and organizations who are collaborating with open knowledge ecosystem. By participating in this track I can create more engaging, evidence-based reports that not only showcase what we achieved but also demonstrate why it matters. This is crucial for sustaining current volunteer interest, attracting new collaborators, and ensuring the long-term growth and visibility of the Wikimedians of Kerala User Group and the projects we contribute to.
- Track 2: Project Design Challenge – From Learning to Action : I am very much interested to look into new kind of programme design which can attact new contributors. Also I am interested to know about new ways to find editors more engaging and contributor retention in the project.I plan to use the skills to design the next generation of programs for the Wikimedians of Kerala User Group, creating more effective edit-a-thons, data-thons, and partnerships with educational institutions for building a persistent contributing community rather than just achieving short-term metrics.
Tell us about one Wikimedia program, campaign, or initiative you’ve contributed to in a leadership role
[edit]I have played a pivotal role in the Wiki Loves Onam campaign, an initiative focused on documenting and celebrating the cultural richness of the Onam festival across Wikimedia projects. This campaign aim to document diverse aspects of Onam, including rituals, traditional attire, dance performances, cuisine, and floral arrangements (Pookkalams), through high-quality media and articles.
Project Coordination: Overseeing the campaign's planning and execution, including timeline management, activity scheduling, and resource allocation. For instance, the 2024 edition spanned September 1–30, featuring photo competitions, edit-a-thons, and video documentation
Training and Support: Conducting workshops to train participants on contributing to Wikimedia Commons, Wikipedia, and Wikidata. This involved teaching techniques for capturing high-quality media, writing encyclopedic content, and leveraging tools
Community Engagement: Mobilizing volunteers, partnering with organizations like the LUCA Science Magazine, and promoting the campaign through social media. Also organizing sub campaigns like Poo Pakarthan Porumo in LUCA.
Impact Evaluation: Using tools like Montage and Quarry, to find files Files and measure contributions, such as the number of images uploaded, articles created/improved, and participant engagement.
What skills or knowledge do you hope to gain from this training?
[edit]- From this training, I hope to acquire a more structured and professional skill set in program evaluation and data communication to significantly enhance the impact and sustainability of the initiatives I lead.
- Advanced Evaluation Frameworks: I want to move beyond basic metrics like "number of images uploaded" or "articles created." I hope to learn how to design and implement robust evaluation frameworks that can measure deeper outcomes.
- Community Growth: Better methods to quantify the strengthening of our community network and partnerships.
- Motivate Volunteers: Show contributors the tangible difference their efforts make, encouraging long-term involvement.
- Attract New Participants: Create accessible and exciting impact reports that can be shared on social media and community forums to attract a broader audience to future campaigns.
