[edit]- No
Are you currently involved in any leadership, facilitation, or mentoring roles within the Wikimedia movement? If yes, briefly describe the imitative and your involvement in it
[edit]- Yes, I'm currently leading and mentoring in the Wikimedia community. My main role is as the Social Media Coordinator for Wiki Club SATI. I love this work because I get to help students discover Wikimedia projects, guide them as new contributors, and organize workshops and edit-a-thons. It's a privilege to mentor new people and help build a community that's dedicated to creating and sharing free knowledge.
- On a larger scale, I'm also on the core organizing team for Wiki Loves Science -a project we're launching in India for the very first time.In addition to my other responsibilities, I serve as the Graphics Lead for this initiative. My job is to handle outreach and connect with various institutions and communities to get as many people as possible involved.
Both of these roles allow me to contribute to leadership and mentorship at both the local and national levels, and I'm really passionate about it.
Track Preference
[edit]Your preferred track during the workshop
[edit]- Track 1: Evaluation, Impact, and Data Storytelling
- Track 2: Project Design Challenge – From Learning to Action
- Track 2
Which track are you most interested in and why?
[edit]- I am most interested in the Project Design Challenge track. My experience as the Social Media Coordinator for Wiki Club SATI and a Graphics Lead for the Wiki Science competition[4] has shown me the importance of effective planning and execution. I've been directly involved in bringing project ideas to life, and I am eager to learn the foundational skills needed to design, propose, and manage a new Wikimedia project from the ground up.Additionally, my recent experience as a jury member for Wiki Loves Folklore India 2025[5] has provided me with valuable insight into evaluating the outcomes of community projects. This has made me even more passionate about learning the project design process, as I can combine my understanding of both creation and evaluation. I believe this track will provide me with the tools and mentorship to turn my ideas into impactful and sustainable community initiatives.
Tell us about one Wikimedia program, campaign, or initiative you’ve contributed to in a leadership role
[edit]- I had a great time leading the Medic Tree Mapping Campaign2025. This project was done with Wiki Club SATI to document and map medicinal trees on Wikimedia. The main idea was to create awareness about these trees and their importance. My leadership role was as the Head of Visual Content & Design. My work involved making all the social media posts, graphics, and other promo stuff for the campaign. I also designed simple guides and templates so participants could easily understand how to map and upload information. I made sure everything we created looked good, was easy to read, and caught people's attention.I feel this role was very important for the campaign to be successful. It was really a good experience to see our designs encourage people to contribute to free knowledge and also care about the environment.
What skills or knowledge do you hope to gain from this training?
[edit]- Looking at the projects I have done so far, I have learned a lot about the practical side of campaigns, like handling social media and creating good visuals. However, to make bigger and more impactful projects in the future, I need to learn the complete process from start to finish.I am confident this training will help me formalize my existing skills and give me the knowledge to build more sustainable and impactful campaigns for the Wikimedia community in India. My goal is to use this training to turn my ideas into long-term projects that can grow and inspire many more people.
Based on your selected track, what is one challenge you have encountered in either evaluating Wikimedia programs or designing impactful projects? Please share your experience relevant to your chosen track.
[edit]- One of the biggest challenges I've faced is ensuring sustained engagement from participants after a campaign ends. For example, during the Medic Tree Mapping Campaign, we saw great initial enthusiasm. However, a learning moment for me was realizing that we needed a better strategy to keep contributors involved even after the main event was over. Designing a project that builds a lasting community, rather than just running a one-time event, is a challenge I'm very keen to solve.
How do you plan to apply what you learn after the event?
[edit]- After the training, I plan to immediately apply the project design and strategic planning skills to my work with Wiki Club SATI. My goal is to design a new, year-long initiative that goes beyond a single event. This project would focus on creating a sustained mentoring program for new contributors, with the aim of increasing the retention rate of students in our community.
I also plan to share the knowledge I gain with the core organizing team of Wiki Loves Science and other emerging Wikimedia communities in India, like our local college clubs. By collaborating with them, I can help to create a more strategic approach to designing community-focused campaigns that have a lasting impact.
