Are you currently involved in any leadership, facilitation, or mentoring roles within the Wikimedia movement? If yes, briefly describe the imitative and your involvement in it
[edit]- Yes, I am currently involved in the Indic Oral Culture Project as a Project Coordinator. In this role, I mentor and guide participants in documenting Indic oral culture and traditions. My responsibilities include supporting participants in recording and uploading videos to Wikimedia Commons, integrating those videos into relevant Wikipedia articles and Wikisource pages, and ensuring proper use of Creative Commons licensing.

[edit]Your preferred track during the workshop
[edit]- Track 1: Evaluation, Impact, and Data Storytelling
- Track 2: Micro-Project Design Challenge – From Learning to Action
- Track 2: Micro-Project Design Challenge – From Learning to Action
Which track are you most interested in and why?
[edit]- I am most interested in the Micro-Project Design Challenge – From Learning to Action track. As a Project Coordinator for the Indic Oral Culture Project, my role involves guiding participants in documenting oral culture, uploading videos to Wikimedia Commons, and integrating them into Wikipedia and Wikisource. This track aligns with my work because it emphasizes turning knowledge into practical, small-scale projects that deliver visible outcomes. Strengthening my ability to design and manage such micro-projects will help ensure that participants not only learn the documentation process but also apply it in impactful ways, thereby building sustainable engagement with the Wikimedia movement and creating long-lasting contributions to the preservation of Indic oral traditions
Tell us about one Wikimedia program, campaign, or initiative you’ve contributed to in a leadership role
[edit]- I have contributed to the Indic Oral Culture Project 2024–25 in a leadership role as Project Coordinator. The purpose of this initiative is to train and mentor individuals from diverse backgrounds to document and digitize oral traditions, and to make them freely accessible through Wikimedia Commons, Wikipedia, and Wikisource. This work has created impact by preserving cultural narratives, fostering community participation in open knowledge, and enriching Wikimedia platforms with diverse oral heritage resources. Through this role, I learned how to design and facilitate training, mentor contributors effectively, and balance community needs with project goals. It also strengthened my skills in leadership, collaborative problem-solving, and communicating impact to a wider audience.
What skills or knowledge do you hope to gain from this training?
[edit]- Through this training, I hope to gain skills in program evaluation, impact measurement, and micro-project design. Strengthening these areas will help me assess the effectiveness of initiatives like the Indic Oral Culture Project, communicate results through data storytelling, and design small, sustainable projects that encourage long-term community engagement. These skills will not only enhance my current role as a Project Coordinator but also prepare me to take on larger responsibilities within the Wikimedia movement, supporting cultural preservation and open knowledge more effectively
Based on your selected track, what is one challenge you have encountered in either evaluating Wikimedia programs or designing impactful projects? Please share your experience relevant to your chosen track.
[edit]- One challenge I have encountered is designing micro-projects that are both simple for participants to carry out and impactful for the wider Wikimedia community. In the Indic Oral Culture Project, some participants needed extra guidance to translate their training into concrete actions, such as uploading videos or integrating content into Wikimedia projects. This showed me the importance of breaking down big goals into smaller, achievable steps while still ensuring the outcomes are meaningful and sustainable
How do you plan to apply what you learn after the event?
[edit]- I plan to apply the skills gained from this event to strengthen the Indic Oral Culture Project by improving impact measurement, designing sustainable micro-projects, and enhancing participant mentorship. I also aim to use these learnings to strengthen communities by encouraging collaboration across different Wikimedia user groups, supporting new contributors, and building partnerships with cultural organizations and archives to expand the documentation of oral traditions.
(Optional) Are you open to mentorship (either receiving or offering it)?
[edit]- Yes, I am open to both
