Wikimedia Incubator Septemper 2022

In September 2022, the community officially began contributing to the Igala Wikipedia project on the Wikimedia Incubator. The primary goal during this period was to create quality encyclopedia articles in Igala while meeting the Wikimedia Language Committee's requirements for the approval of a standalone Wikipedia.

To ensure consistent growth and activity, the community adopted a strategy of maintaining active contributors every month. Throughout the reporting period, efforts were made to keep between 5 and 10 contributors actively editing the Incubator project each month. Community members worked collaboratively

Language Revitalization Fellowship Support by Wikitonques January 2023

In January 2023, the Igala Wikimedia Community received the 2023 Language Revitalization Fellowship from the Wikitoques User Group to support the revitalization of the Igala language on Wikimedia platforms. The fellowship provided essential resources that enabled the community to sustain contributor engagement, content creation, and capacity-building activities during the Wikimedia Incubator phase. This support played a key role in ensuring the smooth growth and development of the Igala Wikipedia project throughout 2023. See meta page here

Expanding Igala Language Access on Wikipedia: Creating and Engaging a Community of Contributor (in Person)

The community received a Rapid Fund grant from the Wikimedia Foundation to further engage contributors and strengthen participation in the Igala Wikipedia project on the Wikimedia Incubator.

On 25 November 2023, with support from the Wikimedia Foundation's Rapid Fund, the community organized a significant outreach event aimed at expanding the presence of the Igala language on Wikimedia platforms. The event focused on recruiting, training, and engaging contributors to actively participate in the development of Igala Wikipedia on the Wikimedia Incubator.

The gathering brought together passionate Igala language speakers, students, and volunteers who shared a common commitment to preserving, documenting, and promoting the Igala language and culture through free knowledge. The event also provided participants with the skills and knowledge needed to create and improve content on Igala Wikipedia, helping to strengthen the community's contributor base and accelerate the growth of the project.
