The Igbo Wikimedians User Group was recognized as a Wikimedia User Group on May 5, 2018.
This report outlines the accomplishments and activities of the group between May 29 2018 and May 5, 2019.

Outcomes[edit]

  • The User Group was launched with attendance from over 35 persons, six journalists from different Media houses including BBC Igbo.[1] [2]
  • Partnership with the Anambra State Ministry for Information and Public Enlightenment and the Digipreneur Hub which led to the emergence of Igbo Wikimedians UG Anambra State Hub.
  • Increased content in Igbo Wikipedia and test Wiktionary, as well as their page views and users. [3]
  • FGGC Bwari Wiki club.
This club was formed after a collaboration work with Oby Ezeilo of the Igbo  Wikimedians User Group on her project "Igbo Wiktionary 
Edit-a-thon in Federal Government Girls’ College, Bwari, FCT, Nigeria"
  • During the event called Adandiigbo Cultural pageant,Tochi Precious represented the User Group where more than thirty persons heard about Wikimedia Foundation and Wikipedia for the first time and participation in this event resulted to an agreed partnership with the annual event planners to reserve a spot for the User Group as one of their speakers every year.
  • Our monthly meetups has attracted more members to our user group and has helped them participate in discussions about the Movement Strategy Scoping Documents hence having members who are involved in the Igbo Wikimedians User Group and Wikimedia activities.
