Description

... Mais à Byzance, à Sainte-Sophie, déjà la voûte d'arête romaine s'était modifiée. Sa clef centrale était habituellement alors posée au-dessus du niveau des extrados des clefs d'arcs-doubleaux (voyez figure 11), si toutefois on peut donner le nom d'arcs-doubleaux à des arcs à peine saillants sur le nu interne de la voûte. L'arc A, par exemple, de la figure 11 n'était que le nerf de brique, romain qui, au lieu d'être entièrement noyé dans l'épaisseur de la voûte, ressortait quelque peu. On remarquera d'ailleurs que ces arcs A, B, C sont au nu de la voûte, à sa naissance en D sur les tailloirs carrés des chapiteaux, et ne prononcent leur saillie qu'en
