2025 Activities
[edit]Documenting and Improving Athlete Profiles on Wikidata
[edit]This event was an offshoot of the Igbo Wiki Fan Club Imo State University in partnership with Mira Empowerment Foundation, as a 2-day workshop from 21 February to 22 February 2025, to train both existing and new editors on how to contribute to Wikimedia projects. The focus was on increasing and improving athletes visibility by adding labels and descriptions in Igbo language on Wikidata. See the event page and dashboard for more details.
Igbo Language Audio Project - 13-27/09/2025
[edit]The Igbo language audio project is a collaboration between the Igbo Wiki Fan Club Imo State University and Igbo Wiki Fan Club Alvan. It is aimed at improving the availability of audio content in the Igbo language. The project will focus on creating accurate and high quality audio pronunciations of Igbo indigenous names, traditional music and instruments, heritage sites, traditional ceremonies and idiomatic expressions, which will be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, ensuring accessibility to both Igbo and non Igbo speakers. These audio pronunciations will be added to their respective pages on Igbo Wikipedia and Igbo Wiktionary. By closing this content gap, the project will enhance community engagement, promote localization and language revitalization, and serve as a sustainable resource for research or reference. Nigerian Legislators Translation Project - 10-24/05/2025
[edit]The Nigerian Legislators Translation Project was a collaboration between the Igbo Wiki Fan Club Imo State University and the Igbo Wiki Fan Club Alvan. It was aimed at improving the availability of information on Nigerian lawmakers by translating their biography articles from English to Igbo language. The project ran from May 10 – May 24, 2025. At the end of the contest, over 385 articles were correctly translated by the participants. For more details, see event page and dashboard.
Build Your Own Road Map for Igbo Language Digital Activism - 31/05-01/06/2025
[edit]The Build Your Own Road Map for Igbo Language Digital Activism workshop was a two-day event with 24 attendees, designed to empower participants with the knowledge and tools needed to promote and preserve the Igbo language through digital platforms. The workshop combined interactive discussions, expert presentations, and hands-on training to foster digital language activism using Wikimedia projects. For more details, see event page and dashboard

[edit]The Health Translation Project is a collaboration between the Igbo Wiki Fan Club Imo State University and Igbo Wiki Fan Club Alvan. It was aimed at improving the availability of information on health and medicine in the Igbo language, ensuring that it’s accessible to Igbo speakers. The project was focused on translating over 100 articles from English Wikipedia to Igbo Wikipedia, using the content translation tool. By closing this content gap, the project enhanced community engagement, promote linguistic inclusivity, and empower the Igbo-speaking community. The target wiki was Igbo Wikipedia. Igbo Wiktionary Project - 25/04-09/05/2026
[edit]The Igbo Wiktionary project is a collaboration between the Igbo Wiki Fan Club Alvan and Igbo Wiki Fan Club Imo State University. It was aimed at improving the availability of audio content in the Igbo language. The project was focused on creating accurate and high quality audio pronunciations of Igbo words which was uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, ensuring accessibility to both Igbo and non Igbo speakers. These audio pronunciations was added to their respective pages on the Igbo Wiktionary. By closing this content gap, the project enhanced community engagement, promote localization and language revitalization, and served as a sustainable resource for research or reference.
