| ||||||||||||||||||||
Introduction
[edit]The Indic Wikimedia Hackathon Hyderabad 2026 is organized by the Indic MediaWiki Developers User Group (Indic-TechCom). The event will take place in Hyderabad from 26-28 June 2026, with 25 June designated as Day 0.
Indic Wikimedia hackathons are collaborative spaces where developers, designers, content editors, and other contributors come together to build technical solutions that enhance the experience of contributors and users across Wikimedia projects.
The event is intended for:
- Technical contributors active in the Wikimedia technical ecosystem, including developers and maintainers (admins/interface admins)
- Content contributors with a strong understanding of technical challenges in Wikimedia projects such as Wikipedia, Wikisource, and Wiktionary
- Contributors from other FOSS communities or past Wikimedia participants interested in engaging with Wikimedia’s technical ecosystem
Task and program design
[edit]Building on learnings from previous hackathons, this edition adopts a more structured and collaborative approach.
Curated tasks will be shared in advance to help participants better align their interests and skills. These tasks are designed to collectively contribute to meaningful improvements in tools, workflows, and technical systems, helping move them toward more stable and usable versions.
Additionally, participants will be asked about their preferred areas of work during the application process. These preferences will be considered while assigning or shaping tasks.
Participants proposing their own ideas are encouraged to include:
- A clear problem statement
- A possible approach or solution
While perfection is not expected, clarity of thought and intent will strengthen the proposal.
Participants are encouraged to continue collaboration beyond the hackathon to ensure long-term impact and sustainability.
