Iran-Italy Wiki Collaboration

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

(September 1, 2025 - September 30, 2025)

The Italian Wikipedia community and the Iranian Wikimedians User Group are hosting a writing contest to enhance cultural exchange. Participants will create articles about Iran on the Italian Wikipedia and about Italy on the Persian Wikipedia.

For further information see the local pages of this collaboration on it.wiki and fa.wiki.

Date and Time

The writing contest will run from 00:01 September 1, 2025 until 23:59 September 30, 2025. So, only the work done between these dates will be included in the contest.

Rules

  • The article must be created between 00:01 on September 1, 2025 and 23:59 on September 30, 2025 (UTC time).
  • The article must be at least 3,000 bytes to get one point. There are no other minimum size requirements.
  • In order to prioritise quality over quantity, each individual entry will be credited an additional point for the purposes of the competition if it reaches 10 kilobytes, and from that size onwards an additional point for every 5 kilobytes. In this way, users will be encouraged to write long and complete articles, and to include sources for the information they report. Some examples of scoring:
    • 2 kb entry: not ranked for the competition
    • 4 kb entry: 1 point
    • 8 kb entry: 1 point
    • 10 kb entry: 2 points
    • 26 kb entry: 5 points
  • The article must meet all Notability requirements.
  • The article must include reliable sources; any questionable or controversial statements should be verified by credible sources.
  • The article must not be machine-translated and should have appropriate language structure.
  • The article must not have any tags.
  • The article must not be a list.
  • We suggest to choose the articles from among the ones in the provided list, but this is not mandatory. In general, any entry directly related to Iran (for Italian participants) or Italy (for Persian participants) will be accepted, especially if it is directly related to the entries on that list, e.g. by following red links. Any exclusion of entries not on the provided list remains at the discretion of the organisers.

Note: At the end, jury members will determine whether to accept or reject the article.

Prizes

  • The top 5 contributors of both sides of the contest will win book about Italy (for Persian users) and Iran (for Italian users).
