Usergroup Structural Policies
[edit]- Any Iraqi citizen with an active account on Wikimedia projects is eligible to become a member of the user group.
- The primary communication and announcement platform for members is the Telegram group.
- All members are encouraged to actively participate in group initiatives such as editathons, workshops, and public events.
- Membership is voluntary and free of charge.
- The user group may form subcommittees or working groups for specific thematic areas (e.g., education, GLAM partnerships, Wikidata).
- Decisions are made collaboratively, and feedback from active members is encouraged and documented.
- Code of Conduct: All members must adhere to the Wikimedia Universal Code of Conduct (UCoC) and respect Wikimedia values of inclusion, neutrality, and collaboration.
Board & Leadership
[edit]- The user group board consists of five members, elected every two years by all active members who hold at least basic editing rights on Wikipedia.
- Board members must have a minimum of two years of experience in the Wikimedia movement and demonstrated involvement in community activities.
- The board is responsible for setting strategic direction, approving annual plans and budgets, and overseeing community engagement.
- Each year, the board elects a Director to serve as the main coordinator and representative of the user group.
- The Director is responsible for organizing meetings, coordinating with the Wikimedia Foundation or its affiliates, and ensuring the execution of the approved action plan.
- A simple majority vote of the board is required for major decisions.
- If a board member resigns or is inactive for two months, the board should announce an election to choose a new member.

[edit]On the 18th of Jan 2025, the usergroup held the annual meeting to plan for 2025 activities

- Organize an offline meeting to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the usergroup this year in Baghdad
- Organize Wikilove monuments, Wikimedia Iraq, Mesopotamia Editathon, and Gulf Contest.
- Organize the Arabic Wikipedia Day this year in Mosul.
- Elect Ali Khaleel to lead the usergroup activities until June 2026.
- Establish a Board of 5 experienced members, and elect the Members for 1 year.
- Start drafting policies of the user group.
- apply for the next round of the general support fund to achieve the planned activities.
