A joint meeting between the Iranian Wikimedians User Group and the Tajik Wikimedians User Group was held on the sidelines of the Central Asian WikiConference 2025. The session focused on strengthening bilateral collaboration and identifying new opportunities for mutual cooperation.
Key topics discussed included the need to expand the Tajik Wikipedia using resources from Persian Wikipedia. Participants of the meeting discussed ideas such as developing bots and tools to convert Persian script into Tajik Cyrillic, as well as translation of extensions to facilitate this process.
Tajik representatives also highlighted the need to enrich Wikimedia Commons with content related to Tajikistan. However, they stressed that such efforts should be culturally supported within the country and not rely solely on contributions from the overseas.
Further into the session, the Tajik group outlined specific needs of the Tajik Wikipedia so that the Persian Wikipedia community could assist within its capabilities. It was agreed that Tajik users would participate in the Iranian group's monthly virtual events to ensure ongoing engagement and collaboration.
The meeting concluded with a decision to appoint two liaison membersâone from each groupâto better coordinate activities, communications, and joint efforts. This is expected to significantly support the continuity of collaborations and the implementation of shared initiatives.
