Tuluvas Aati Month Document Demonstration and MOU Signing

The "Tuluvas Aati Month Document Demonstration and MOU Signing" event was held on January 11, 2025, at SDM College, Ujire. Organized in collaboration with the Kannada Department and the PG Department of Journalism & Mass Communication, the event celebrated the rich traditions of the Tuluva community and highlighted the significance of cultural documentation. More than 70 Students and lectures were actively participated in this event.

The function was inaugurated by the Vice Principal of SDM College, setting a ceremonial tone for the day's proceedings and encouraging students to actively participate in preserving culture and heritage. Mr. Bhaskara Hegde, from the Department of Journalism & Mass Communication, warmly welcomed the gathering, paving the way for a series of enlightening discussions. Dr. Diva Kakkada, Lecturer in the Kannada Department, led the entire program with great enthusiasm.


  • Inspiring Talks on Documentation

Dr. Sundar Kenaje, accompanied by Mr. Yadupathi Gowda, a key resource person, delivered a captivating address on the critical role of documentation. Dr. Kenaje emphasized how meticulous record-keeping can significantly contribute to academic growth and career development. He illustrated his points with live examples, including the iconic Gadayi Kallu, to underline the importance of research-oriented documentation in today’s context.

  • Folklore and Open-Source Contributions

Dr. Vishwanatha Badikana, President of the Karavali Wikimedians User Group, spoke passionately about documenting folklore. He highlighted the importance of preserving cultural narratives in the modern era and encouraged the audience to contribute to open-source platforms like Wikimedia. His insights provided a roadmap for utilizing documented content effectively to benefit wider communities.

Mr. Bharathesha shared his firsthand experiences while documenting the traditions of Aati Month. He elaborated on the challenges and rewards of safeguarding living heritage, stressing the urgency of preserving cultural practices for future generations.

  • Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)

A landmark moment of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Karavali Wikimedians User Group and SDM College. This agreement formalizes their collaboration, ensuring sustained efforts in documenting and promoting Tulu heritage.
