Community Assessment Summary

Based on initial diagnostic call Current Status & Strengths

  • Stage: Early Incubator.
  • Technology: Community members have access to smartphones.
  • Content Goal: Clear objective to double the number of articles and ultimately graduate from the Incubator.
  • Content Focus: Interest in creating articles about cultural institutions and translating existing French/English content.

Identified Challenges & Support Needs

  • Critical Access Barrier: Lack of consistent internet connectivity is the primary blocker to all activity. Members need internet access to contribute.
  • Foundational Skills Gap: Community needs training in the most basic wiki skills: creating an account, editing a page, and creating a simple article.
  • Translation & Onboarding: Difficulty in bridging the gap between experienced non-native wiki organizers and new native speaker recruits.
  • Resource Mobilization: Need guidance and support to apply for micro-grants for internet data packages to enable participation.

Mentorship Action Plan

  • Objective: Secure basic connectivity and establish a simple, sustainable workflow for first contributions.

  • Launch a Data-Backed Editing Drive if micro-grant is secured.
  • Start a Translate a Paragraph weekly project.
  • Create a basic Bauolé Style Guide on-wiki to collect common terms.
  • Monitor and encourage regular contribution from the core group.
  • Phase 3: Content Theming & Outreach Prep (Months 7-9)
  • Objective: Systematize content creation and prepare for community growth.
  • Organize a Cultural Institutions Month focusing on specific topics.
  • Draft a one-page community profile for sharing with local institutions.
  • Explore offline editing tools (e.g., Kiwix) for areas with poor connectivity.
  • Phase 4: Graduation Pathway & Sustainability (Months 10-12)
  • Objective: Review graduation criteria and plan for long-term sustainability.
  • Conduct a formal review against Incubator graduation requirements.
  • Develop a post-graduation sustainability plan.
  • Document the "Connectivity Grant" impact for future support.
