Community Assessment Summary

[edit]

(Based on initial diagnostic call)

Current Status & Strengths

[edit]
  • Stage: Incubator (Wiktionary), restarting after previous attempts lost momentum.
  • Organization: Backed by the structured support of the Wiki Advocates Philippines User Group, which provides leadership, a proven system, and a community learning hub with laptops and internet.
  • Recruitment: Has identified 7 prospective native-speaker editors and has connections with external organizations to recruit more.
  • Clear Process: Has a defined workflow: create word entries, then add pronunciation via Lingua Libre, then add images.
  • Content Goal: 1,000+ word entries for the Rinconada Wiktionary by Q1 2026.

Primary Goals

[edit]
  1. Recruit and onboard 7+ prospective native-speaker editors.
  2. Reach 1,000+ word entries in the Rinconada Wiktionary by Q1 2026.
  3. Achieve consistent editing activity from 5-10 editors for 12 months.
  4. Build end-user engagement (people using the Wiktionary to search).

Identified Challenges & Support Needs

[edit]
  1. Volunteer Recruitment & Retention: The #1 challenge. Recruiting native speakers and maintaining their interest beyond initial mechanical work. Need for a varied engagement program.
  2. Language & Experience Barrier: Potential gap between experienced non-native Wikimedians (project leads) and new native-speaker recruits who are new to wiki.
  3. Wiktionary-Specific Skills: Need for template localization for Wiktionary and effective use of Lingua Libre for pronunciation.
  4. Sustained Momentum: Preventing the drop-off in activity that occurred in past efforts.

Meeting Notes & Logs
