Learning and Evaluation/100 Words Campaign
“A Hundred Words” Campaign:
Creating the Wikimedia Commons Picture Card Deck
[edit]This page in a nutshell: With this campaign, we want to create a picture card deck that any facilitator can use for ice breakers during events and activities across the movement. Help us to crowd source images from Wikimedia Commons! Read more on the Background and Rationale. |
How To Participate
[edit]- Choose a word from the list below.
- Find an image from Wikimedia Commons that goes with that word. The only pictures accepted are photographs or paintings. No logos, words or icons, please!
- Paste the link to the image on the corresponding section for the word below. Happy image hunting!
- Alternatively, you can find more images on Wikipedia's Pinterest board, and pin them to our board, stating what word the image describes to you.
(For Example) Chosen Word: Teamwork
[edit]-
Birds flying to their home during the sunset
Reasoning: Birds are a great example of individuals who unite for the benefit of the whole group so that together, they can have a successful migration and easier flight. Scientists estimate that the whole flock “can fly about 70% farther than they could individually without exerting any extra energy...because flying together helps reduce wind resistance, while also providing additional lift.”

[edit]Background and Rationale
[edit]People often say that a picture is worth a thousand words. Pictures help us to communicate feelings and ideas across diverse cultures and beyond language barriers. The goal of this campaign is to create a deck of cards that can be used in activities at Wikimedia events throughout the movement to help Wikimedians connect and share. In these ice-breaker activities, participants can pick a card that reflects their hopes, fears or expectations for that day, and then during a round of sharing, each person shares and explains the card they chose. Can you help us find 100 images from Wikimedia Commons that represent these hundred words? We need your help! What images best represent the words listed above?
