Description

  • What: This project will enable the Likpakpaanl Language Wikimedians to be introduced to wikipedia and its sister projects. It will also create awareness of wikimedia to the whole University at large. Participants after being trained, will engage in a writing contest on Translatewiki and in the Test wiki platform.
  • When: Translatewiki and Edit-athon for Likpakpaanl Language Wikimedians contest will involve translate-a-thon and edit-a-thon. These two individual sub projects will officially hold on 10th September, 2025 and end on 10th October, 2025.
  • Who: Everybody can help to collaborate on translating the articles into the Likpakpaanl Language.


Description of the two Sub-Projects

  • Translatewiki.net: In the MediaWiki software on translatewiki.net, the "most important messages" refer to a set of essential interface messages that need to be translated for a language to be considered usable. This group of messages is called the "MediaWiki core messages" or sometimes the " most used/Most Important messages" because they include the most frequently seen and critical elements of the user interface. These essential interface messages will be localized in Likpakpaal Langauge. The project is expected to localize all the most used/most important messages in the mediawiki.


  • Edit-a-thon: The testwiki project involves the composing/translating/writing of articles in the incubator to ascertain the existence of the langauge. A lot of articles will be created as a requirment to exit the langague from the incubator to a live wikipedia site. This project is geared towards adding quality edits in the incubator.

List of main activities for the project

  1. Advocacy and awareness creation : Speakers will be invited to speak about wikipedia and its sister projects at Chereponi Community Center
  2. Official launch of Likpakpaanl Language Wikimedians Community
  3. Volunteers will be recruited
  4. Training of Volunteers on Translatewiki.net (physical and online)
  5. Training of vounteers wikimedia incubator (physical and online)
  6. Translate a-thon on Translatewiki.net (100% most used/most important messages will be translated (totol of 587 messages are required)
  7. Translating of more than 100 English articles to Likpakpaanl in the incubator
  8. Award of Prizes for high contributors

After reaching about 50% of translation of the most used or important messages. A group of four will collaborate to complete the remaining 50% messages left which presumably are the difficult to translate. The group after completing will receive GHC1000 worth gift vouchers.

Edit-a-thon contest

  • Prize: Gift vouchers will be offered to the participant with the highest edits (by bytes) with consideration of quality of contribution.
  1. 1st 🥇 = GHS 1000 Gift Voucher
  2. 2nd 🥈 = GHS 800 Gift Voucher
  3. 3rd 🥉 = GHS 600 Gift Voucher
  4. Data allowance for all contributors with substential edits = GHS 200 Gift Voucher each
  • Top Female Contributor* = GHC 500 Gift Voucher
