This page allows you to request CheckUser information on Meta.

  • Please read the CheckUser policy before asking for a check.
  • When adding new requests, please use the {{checkuser}} template to list the user names in question and {{checkip}} for IP addresses, which simplifies investigation.
  • List your request at the bottom of the "Requests for Meta-Wiki only" heading.
  • When asking for a check we need to know:
    • why do you believe that the accounts are related (please present evidence for that with the help of diffs, etc.),
    • why, if the accounts are related, they are being used abusively, in violation of policy; and
    • why a block or other measures can't be justified without the need of technical evidence.

Requests for Meta-Wiki only[edit]

Gungbe Wikimedians grant commenters[edit]

This morning, I reviewed this grant talk page and assessed the manner in which the above user showed up (without any ping from the supposed grantee). The written style of all the commenters are very similar, and the timestamps are too close. It reads to me that they are sockpuppets. I don't know who the master sock is among these users but I doubt they are different users based on their behaviour. Considering that they are applying to get donors fund, could a Checkuser take a look at this case? I do not trust these users as there are already outright lies about the cost of routers in Nigeria by one of these accounts. 23:52, 19 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the report. The following accounts are technically indistinguishable:
Pinging DSaroyan (WMF), as they may have/want more context on this. Also, for CUs and WMF staffers, please feel free to contact me for more information, as this is much more complex than a simple "technically indistinguishable" finding. Given that it may be multiple people working together and sharing the same devices, rather than one person pretending to be seven people, I'm going to assume good faith and not block for now. However, in doing my due diligence I am going to inform the grants team and recommend that they seek clarification on this. Best, Vermont 🐿️ (talk) 00:55, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @Vermont, I allowed this to play out to make sure CU do their findings. Almost all the above users are part of the team that made creation of guwwiki a reality. We all worked consistently for months before the wiki was approved by language committee. We also worked on the approved guwwiktionary and the newly approved pcmwiki. As a sysop on guwwiki and the founder of Gungbe Wikimedians User Group and an established trainer on various Wikimedia project events, I have provided support for these users at various times. I can confidently say that I introduced and trained almost all the users to Wikimedia projects. We meet both virtually and in-person. In our in-person meetings we share one device because it is connected to a single screen that can be seen by all. One person can login to explain his ideas and points and can logout when he/she is done for others to do same. The anonymous user knows this. We have one laptop to work on. Similar thing is done in our in-person trainings. I don't think this is wrong since it happens occasionally. And individuals can afterwards work on their individual mobile devices. We have a usergroup WhatsApp group where we also communicate for real time discussion. We all know the anonymous user causing this trouble because recently the said user has been attacking us locally. We have had office hour with the grant team where they met members of our community as individuals. We also have records with the grant team as further proof that we are all unique individuals. We will provide the username of this person causing trouble when the time is right. And your findings will show the user is also connected to everyone and the IP address is for this anonymous user (I will welcome your advice on going about this). As can be seen on the link on the grant page where the anonymous user claimed it's an outright lie for the cost of router and projector for in-person event, the grantee has provided the link to the standard projector and router cost that matches the cost stated in Nigeria. Thanks.-- Samatics (talk) 12:34, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you @Samatics, you have said it all. Misteld (talk) 14:02, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Samatics. Thank you for summarising the state of the matter. Gadarawamo (talk) 14:16, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Samatics, We all know this user has been causing trouble but we will wait until he reveals his username. Thank you for speaking our mind and calming us even when we all saw his message and discussed it on our WhatsApp group on what we think we should do. Jonywikis (talk) 14:27, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the context, Samatics. Vermont 🐿️ (talk) 14:35, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you @Samatics Nothing else to add. You have spoken our mind and I can't add more. Biowikician (talk) 16:15, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
