Not ending before 19:35, 10 February 2026 (UTC)
Hi, all!
I am applying for the local CheckUser flag here in order to effectively fight spam bots and LTAs who extend their activities to Meta-Wiki.
I have been a Wikimedia contributor since 2011 and a Global Sysop since 2016, actively fighting cross-wiki vandalism via SWMT. On the JAWP, I have served as an Administrator, CheckUser, Oversighter, and Bureaucrat, holding CU rights for 6 years.
My experience on the 2022 Ombuds Commission further solidified my expertise in privacy policy and the handling of non-public data. I am fully versed in global CheckUser norms and confidentiality requirements.
If granted Meta-Wiki CU rights, I will apply my extensive experience to handle global activities and local requests efficiently, ensuring privacy compliance. Given that few JAWP contributors possess GS experience, I am uniquely positioned to bridge these roles and contribute meaningfully to our SWMT activity.
Thanks. --Infinite0694 (Talk) 19:35, 3 February 2026 (UTC)

Support I don't see any problem on this request. User is experienced on CU field and trusted, if granting CU to candidate benefit them and the community, just go ahead. Also nice to see non-steward on this role. aqurs 🍧 04:18, 6 February 2026 (UTC)- Weak support, I guess. I'm a bit concerned with their activity levels here on Meta, and we currently have more than 10 CUs. Nevertheless, I'm willing to give them a chance (at least until the current checkuser team expresses that there is no need for extra checkusers). Though I have to say that we have some local checkusers who are not stewards. Jianhui67 talk★contribs 08:00, 6 February 2026 (UTC)
Support convincing reason for requesting CU per explanation in #Comments --Johannnes89 (talk) 11:23, 6 February 2026 (UTC)
Support No reason to oppose this request; the user is experienced with CU tools and brings valuable LTA-related expertise to the Meta CU team. --mirinano (talk) 12:28, 6 February 2026 (UTC)

Support The user have the check user flag on JA wiki, which leads me to believe they know what they are doing and will make good use of this right. PieWriter (talk) 01:15, 7 February 2026 (UTC)

Support I had similar initial concerns as Jianhui, but their rationale for requesting is convincing; no reason to hold this request back. //shb (t • c) 03:09, 8 February 2026 (UTC)

Comments
[edit]- Hello, thank you for running and indicating interest in dealing with spambots and LTAs. This is not a comment of doubt or distrust, as you are already a checkuser on Japanese Wikipedia (this indicates experience with the tools), but what kind of spambots/LTAs do you plan to deal with if you were to become a checkuser here? Have you requested checkuser assistance on Meta before, and how? Currently, we have 11 checkusers on Meta. How do you plan to value-add to the current team? - Thank you for your question.
- Regarding the specific threats I intend to address, my focus includes the increasing of AI-generated spam, which involves automated content across multiple projects and here. Additionally, I aim to fight LTA originating from the JAWP who extend their disruptive activities to Meta-Wiki. Since spambots frequently rotate IPs to create sleeper accounts, CU tools are essential for timely detection and mitigation.
- While I have previously requested CheckUser assistance indirectly through the stewards' mailing list or CU mailing list, this process—while effective—is often time-consuming for all parties involved.
- I believe I can add significant value to the existing 11 member Meta CU team. Currently, without a steward from the ja.wiki community, responses to JAWP-origin LTA can be delayed due to the need for cross-community coordination. Although I have been encouraged to run for steward, I have declined this year due to the high-stakes demands of that role.
- Most current Meta CU rights are held by stewards, which can lead to overlapping workloads. As a non-steward CU, I can alleviate this by handling global tasks and local requests, allowing stewards to focus on high-priority emergencies. Furthermore, operating in the UTC+9 time zone allows me to provide coverage during periods when activity from other regions is lower. This application is not about "hat-collecting"; it is a targeted effort to provide dedicated anti vandalism support.--Infinite0694 (Talk) 15:13, 5 February 2026 (UTC)
Done (25/0/0), unanimous vote, meets the duration and voter threshold. — xaosflux Talk 14:11, 11 February 2026 (UTC)
