Moppy the Mop
Moppy the Mop is the unofficial mascot of users with extended rights in the Wikimedia community. Moppy, an actual mop with an attached red decorative pillow, made its debut at Wikimania 2025 in Nairobi, Kenya, at the first-ever meetup of users with extended rights.
Moppy the mop made further appearances at the Wikimedia CEE Meeting in 2025.
Origins
[edit]The tools used by Wikipedia/Wikimedian administrators are often likened to a janitor's mop, leading to new administrators being described as "given the mop" upon their respective projects' confirmation.
Copyright status
[edit]The copyright status of images of Moppy is debated[citation needed] – there may be enough originality in the composition of Moppy's design to be deemed an individual work of art. However, it is unclear who would hold the rights as the creator or artist.
