Your recommendations and the Foundation's Annual Plan - Movement Communications

Thank you all for the feedback you provided on the report via email, on Meta, and in office hours. The review period has now closed. In the coming weeks, I will be working with those who gave feedback to make the necessary modifications to the report.

UPDATE: The Movement Communications team took your recommendations into the annual planning process, and I am happy to announce we have received the budget to begin much of this work. Changes this fiscal year, based on your recommendations, will include:

  • The hiring of multiple full-time global communications specialists, based in regions where we want to grow, to act as the bridge between local communities and the Foundation (see: Use humans)
  • The building of a “front door” for the Foundation -- a central, multilingual place where movement members can come for support, information and resources from the Foundation (see: Build a better front door)
  • The development of a communications style guide to improve brevity, clarity and cohesion of Foundation announcements (see: Speak human)
  • The hiring of an internal communications specialist, as well as increased support from the Movement Communications team, to improve internal coordination (see: Coordinate, then communicate)

Some of this work is long-term, and much of it will be ongoing, but you should start to notice some changes in the coming months. Your insights were absolutely critical in giving us direction and in helping us get to this point, so thank you!

We still have a lot of work to do in deciding how to go about much of this work (for example, what will the “front door” look like? How can the specialists best support the systems that will be created by the Movement Strategy process? etc.). You all will continue to receive updates and invitations whenever there is an opportunity to create together.

Thanks so much again. --ELappen (WMF) (talk) 18:51, 18 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
