During the year October 2024/2025, Muj(lh)eres latinoamericanas en Wikimedia carried out a series of activities aimed at reducing the gender gap across different Wikimedia projects, while strengthening the skills and leadership of women editors in the region. Our work combined training programs, edit-a-thons, annual campaigns, collaborations with affiliates, and internal coordination through council meetings.
In February we participated in We Women in Science 2025, a virtual event organized in collaboration with Wiki Científicas Mexicanas and Wikimedia Mexico, which contributed to expanding scientific content created by women and about women in the Wikimedia projects. Around the same time, we also launched the third edition of our training program for women editors on Wikipedia. This program brought together 23 editors and resulted in 554 articles edited, 6 new articles created, 123 references added, and 30 Commons uploads successfully integrated into articles.
Alongside training, we developed campaigns that focus on feminist approaches to knowledge production. A campaign that sought to highlight the relationship between gender and time in the projects that feed Wikipedia. During March, in the framework of the International Women's Day, we and Wikimedia Argentina, WikiAcción Perú, Wikimedistas de Bolivia, Wikimedia Colombia, Wikimedistas el Salvador, Wikimedia Chile, Wikimedia España, Wikimedia México, Art & Feminism, WikiAcción Perú, Wikimedistas de Uruguay, Whoseknowledge?, Wikimedia Chile, Wikimujeres, Wiki Editoras Lx, Wikiesfera and Ennegreciendo Wikipedia launched the campaign Feminist Time: Time to Edit Wikipedia, an initiative that seeks to make visible the relationship between gender and time in the projects that feed Wikipedia, with the aim of promoting the active participation of women and people of sexual diversity in the creation of free knowledge. Through this campaign, all people are invited to rethink the distribution of time in our society and how, historically, women and people of sexual diversity have faced an unequal distribution of this resource due to care responsibilities and other social structures.
In parallel, we organized the third training program for women editors on Wikiquote, where 20 participants created 8 new pages, edited 169 existing ones, added 32 references, and uploaded 30 images to Commons for use in articles.
In 2025 we also initiated the fourth training program for women editors on Wikipedia, which continues to build skills among new participants.
As part of our ongoing work on Wikiquote, we carried out Mujereando 2025, our annual campaign dedicated to amplifying women’s voices and achievements, which resulted in the creation of 50 new articles. In addition, our broader annual campaign on Spanish Wikiquote led to 478 new articles, significantly expanding the representation of women in that project.
We also engaged in collaborative activities beyond our own network. We organized the Women Architects Edit-a-thon in Querétaro, Mexico, focusing on women in architecture.
With our colleagues in Brazil, we contributed to the program Projeto Mais Teoria da História na Wiki, including the fourth edition of the virtual mini-course “Wikipédia em chave de gêneros.”
We organized the SheSaid 2025 Campaign in Wikiquote in Spanish.
In the academic field, we supported the dissemination of knowledge with the publication of the article “Bridging the Gender Gap in AI: Is It Possible?” written by Leila Nilipour and published by the University of Pittsburgh in February 2025.
To strengthen our regional structure and long-term vision, Muj(lh)eres Latinoamericanas en Wikimedia held regular council meetings during 2024 and 2025. These gatherings allowed us to evaluate the impact of our actions, refine strategies, and ensure sustained collaboration across countries.
Alongside these meetings, we also advanced in the preparation of key planning documents. We published Strategic Plan 2025–2026 and the Annual Planning for 2025–2026, which provide a roadmap for our regional efforts in the coming years.
We also took part in the co-design sessions for the agenda of the 2025 Spanish-speaking Community Gathering, Encuentro de la Comunidad Hispanohablante 2025, which took place in Buenos Aires in October 2025. The event was divided into two stages: a first stage of collaborative co-creation of the agenda, held virtually over three meetings in July, August, and September; and a second stage, in-person, hold in Buenos Aires from October 10 to 12.
Outcomes that were documented in reports can be read: Results of the third training program designed to train women editors in content creation and improvement 2024/2025. These resources allow us to monitor progress, measure impact, and improve the structure of our training models for the future.

Another milestone in 2025 was the development of the School for women leaders, a training initiative designed to form women leaders in Wikimedia communities across Latin America. Through this school we seek to combine editing skills with leadership training, gender perspective, and community-building strategies, thus ensuring that more women can take on decision-making roles within the Wikimedia movement.
The results of these collective efforts are significant. Over the course of the year, we created and edited hundreds of articles, integrated dozens of references and images, and engaged more than forty women editors in structured training and collaborative campaigns. Through this work we not only improved the visibility of women’s contributions in Wikipedia, Wikiquote, and Wikimedia Commons, but also built a stronger network of editors committed to gender equity within the Wikimedia movement.
Looking ahead, Muj(lh)eres Latinoamericanas en Wikimedia will continue to expand training opportunities, foster new partnerships, and strengthen mentorship processes for women across the region. Our commitment remains focused on making women’s knowledge visible, promoting leadership, and contributing to a more inclusive and equitable Wikimedia movement.
